I think each person is different and the more experienced you are the more you know where to push to for you to grow. Ronnie is the GOAT, but now look what that did to his body. The average lifter needs to learn their Maximal Recoverable Reps per set for muscle gains and muscle recovery to hit them again next time.

Beginning my 3rd year in the gym at age 54, I can no longer imagine a workout where I don t simply take my sets to failure. Nearly every exercise, every set, keeping the weight where I get 8-10 reps generally, my last rep of any given set is always my last possible rep.
I don t know if this is optimal, but it s become so engrained.

Hold on the comparison to Gregg and Matt doesn't account for the longer pauses Matt takes between Reps. Those same pauses you mentioned the Study when training with the Best natural bodybuilder affect hypertrophy. Shouldn't rep pause be counted as a dependent variable for RPE?

Amazing video but it feels like Jeff was still butt hurt by Greg. This is his over-the-top come back backed up by science that isn't practical for 99% of gym-goers. For the majority of people, put the fork down and TRAIN HARDER THAN LAST TIME

I think Greg Nuckols heavily criticized using mobile apps for tracking velocity because they're really inaccurate, in an episode of Stronger By Science. Is the inaccuracy/unreliability of the velocity tracker apps something you disagree with?

Couldn t anchoring sets be confounded with a psychological inhibitor making you think you only can do 2 reps just because you said you had an rpe 8. This is why some people don t count reps at all. Just a thought not an argument. good video

In my training, I feel like I push intensity too high when it should be more moderate but also don't push intensity high enough when my program calls for me to reach (or reach very close) to failure. Anyone else feel the same way?

At this point you re my favorite fitness content creator Jeff. I appreciate the depth and care put in to each video. You and Steph are not powerlifting but are definitely THE power couple.

On a side note, i find going all out just more fun. If I wasn't allowed to go RPE 11, I would lose interest in working out very quickly.
That said, 99% of my workouts I use machines.
