Get 20% Off the New Body Pod 2. 0 by HUME (code: ALAIN) My brand-new book Muscle After 40 is out now! If some jacked bodybuilder swore something worked but couldn't back it up with research, we simply dismissed it as bro-science. And to be fair, a lot of it was. But here's where things get interesting. As researchers started putting some of these old-school beliefs to the test, they discovered that the bros weren't always wrong. In fact, some ideas that were laughed at for decades now have legitimate scientific evidence behind them. So in this video, we're looking at six muscle-building lies that eventually became true. And by the end, you might think twice before dismissing an idea just because the science hasn’t caught up to it yet. In short, don’t take protein supplements unless you’re a pro bodybuilder. Bodybuilders risk their health with steroids anyway. Unfortunately, I know several people who started taking protein supplements when they were youngas early as 16and all of them have suffered serious health consequences, ranging from liver and kidney problems to Crohn’s disease. Get your protein from foodeat more chickenand skip the protein powders. There is a lot of silence surrounding the severe health consequences of using dietary supplements because it’s a multi-billion-dollar industry. That’s my honest advice. No pain no gain is for work out, when you get older it is late.

With regard to the mind-muscle connection, I have noticed that when I train some muscle particularly hard, really going for progressive overload and trying to push past a previous plateau, then later that night as I am about to fall asleep, I will involuntarily spasm just before losing consciousness, and the spasm will recapitulate the exercise I was doing. It's almost as if my nervous system is priming those specific neuromuscular pathways I was straining earlier, helping to build increased neural drive to go with the increasing demands upon the muscle.

There appears to be an assumption that the body cells are not self conscious. We are beginning to receive indicators that cells are self-aware and respond to the focus of the human mind. Naturally then, the muscle cells can respond positively to focus upon them as directive during weight lifting.

I’m going to keep my beliefs that protein is overrated and not needed right before bed to maximize gains over night. I’m also going to believe the stretch doesn’t really matter and that someone just needs a few sets taken to failure with 1 or 2 exercises twice a week to maximize gains.

1: 40 this seems like an extremely unfair comparison. a fair comparison would have been ingesting additional 40 grams of protein at some other time of day. NOT cutting 40 grams of protein out of the placebo diet and then wondering why people who ate 40g of protein more made more gains.

Here are the myths.
0: 41 - you need protein before bed
2: 56 - train with a deep stretch
4: 57 - muscle memory
7: 04 - take every set to failure
10: 58 - the mind muscle connection
16: 20 - different exercises can build different parts of a muscle.

Everyone seems to have an opinion about testosterone, but somehow nobody talks about the book You Are Stronger Than You Think from Cryptic Lore. It’s one of the only books I’ve found that actually focuses on how to naturally boost testosterone.

I started lifting at 45. I'm 49 now and even though I have gotten a lot stronger, I still don't see significant muscle gains.
My diet, my sleep is fine.
Yes I do smoke 10 to 12 cigarettes a day.
Should I check my testosterone

the protein prebed point need further elaboration. do those studies kept total protein intake the same otherwise they are useless. I do think that proteins must be taken at least every 12h or so, but in that case a good dinner is enough.

6: 20 - This one in particular I absolutely don’t need any study to tell me that muscle memory is real. This is is definitely not a may or it seems or suggests situation.
Muscle memory is real. Period.

No normal person rests their hands like you and many other creators do 0: 11, its weird and unsettling, why you doing it its not exactly a comfy or natural position to rest your hands.
reply

I am a good example of muscle memory. I have been training for 12 years and then stopped for 3 years. I train since April and have all my muscles back and more now.
reply
