Alpine Ridge Traverse: The little Brother of the WURL and PURL - Mountain trips

At 24. 5 miles with 14, 000 ft of elevation gain and loss the Alpine Ridge Traverse is no WURL or PURL but that doesn't mean it's easy. The ART still contains lots of knee destroying ridge line and spirit crushing descents. It's still miserable enough to convince your friends not to join you during you'r attempt. But at least Blake and Aaron joined me for a small segment of the last of the three great local traverses

Why do you do such crazy stuff? I know you are the smartest person I know and you probably do it just to make the rest of us lazy bums look even more lazy. Well. it worked. No one can keep up with Dan the Man. You deserve a perfect Father's Day with all your favorite foods, a massage, a little quiet and quality time with a good book. Why? Because you are #1. Mostly.

Great job brother! I'll have to add this one to my list of goals here in the Wasatch. Did the Pheif solo mid May, pretty snowy up there at the time. Planning to do the Cottonwood Traverse this season for the first time.
Congrats on the Trifecta, you are killing it. Thanks for inspiring all of us who aspire to be fit enough to do these all day+ projects.

As much as you hate filming yourself I enjoy the scenery you capture for all of us viewers. When I just want to get away from this scene I just watch a few of your videos and Im in another land of beauty. Thank you So much keep doing what you do. Wish I was there smelling the air and all my senses were alive digestion the alpine landscape.

Love seeing my childhood mountains featured! You guys are BAMFs, makes me sick to watch your stuff but cant look away. You also do a great job showing off our state. You ever thought about doing some of the really unexplored southern Utah canyons and buttes or doing some 1st navigations?

I bet you have a reason for every piece of gear you take. But a cool idea might be to use a gorilla pod for your camera. That way you can leave the selfie stick behind and use a trekking pole as a selfie stick. Also you can wrap it around branches and put on rocks for some epic shots.

Nice! You make it look easy. Descending cliffs is always rough. Hey I've always wondered, do you use sunscreen at all or just rely on the Tan of The Fair People to protect against burning? I hate sunscreen so much that I tend to just wear a hoodie and pants. And even gloves.

Sick man!
A marathon, but with 4000 vertical meters: 0
An not that easy terrain.
Just Wow, and very inspirational for me. Makes me want to do similar things in the european alps.
Also a very good documentation of the adventure

If you made me traverse some of those sections, you would not even have to torture me. I'd tell everything you would want to know. There is hiking, this is not hiking. this is advanced mountaineering or special forces survival training.

This is a very cool route! (Although that downclimb looked super sketchy) How would you say the ridge that connects from community flat in AF canyon to White Baldy compares to other ridges along the standard WURL route?
reply

Sick down climb! Ugh. Were you raised by mountain goats? Did Blake and Aaron rent some horses to get up to the spot where they met you! Nice glissading. And nice outing as usual. Thanks for the entertainment and inspiration.

What did you think of my recommendation on the little set of peaks to traverse the flat top mountain to lowe peak oquirrhs not to tall of peaks I just think they look cool and give good views of the wasatch
reply

I went to willow peak but couldn't find the down climb that looked as easy as the one you did. I've done south ridge but that was sketchy. I turned around but am determined to do it again.
reply

You should do a ridge link up on the range near me you can see it from lone peak the oquirrh link up go from Lowe peak to flat top looks easy not for me tho for you guys it would be east

Is there a bypass to that 30ft down climb after Willow? I love adventures but also would like to see my kids at least until they reach their teen years.
reply

All the camera setups remind me of Survivor Man. That's a LOT of extra work, but it makes the video much more professional and enjoyable. Good job.

Is it not possible to sleep at night like a regular backpacking trail? Whats the reason people do this through the night?

You must have Billie goat dna first rock on those steep ridges I step on would give away and it would be ding. lower floor

I never heard that: downclimbing a cliff is a lot like learning to ride a bicycle. Great advice that I'll never forget.
