The Blue Ridge Parkway is pretty much the perfect American Road Trip. The parkway runs 469 miles from Cherokee, North Carolina to Waynesboro, Virginia. Along the way there is not a single stop sign or stoplight and you can cruise at 45 miles per hour the entire way. The parkway is full of pullouts for viewpoints, hikes, history and waterfalls, leading to many great adventures along the drive. We set out on a 4 day Blue Ridge Parkway road trip and had a blast experiencing this unique area. Here is how we spent 4 days driving the Blue Ridge Parkway

Beautiful videos and photos of a place dear to my heart as we have driven and ridden motorcycles on the entire drive. I found the National Park Service website useful and informative to ensure not only food and gas, but also safety. I got a kick out of your we don't even get out of bed for 6, 000 feet followed later with the hikes are steep. But that's the Californian in you. :) (I was born there. backpacked in Colorado back when we called the Blue Ridge hills. Got my comeuppance when I lived at the foot of the Blue Ridge - they are old mountains deserving a traveler's respect. BTW - your comment on it was like a rain forest is right because, yup, the Blue Ridge Mountains ARE a rain forest) As a 60 year old myself, I enjoy getting out when I can - or just spending the day in my woods and garden or walking my 2 116lb pyrs, keeping in shape to get out. Nice job on the videos and information.

I did a Blue Ridge Parkway drive a couple of years ago, and like you, I didn't give it enough time. I think I'd plan for six days at least, the next time I do it.
True story: on the trail to Craggy Pinnacle, I saw a just-married bride and groom hiking up. She was still in her wedding dress. The view up there is great; I could have stayed up there for hours. Busy, though.
I am glad you liked Peaks of Otter Lodge. I love that place. It is pricey, but worth the money IMO. The last time I was there, I ate breakfast in the dining room one morning. On the other side of the lake, there was a young bear climbing in some old apple trees. He kept the entire room entertained for quite a while.

I wanted to thank you for making my trip so memorable. After watching the video and purchasing your spots to visit, I was able to put together a motorcycle trip riding South to North on the BRP. Using your recommendations, we stopped at Pisgah Inn for lunch, which was actually dessert (Yummy, Alta Orchard (the apple pie a la mode was freaking awesome, had dinner at the Blowing Rock Brewing Company (yes, the pretzels were top notch) and had our photos taken at the 0 MM in Waynesboro. Some of my friends didnt want to stop at some places, but I will be taking a car the next time and will be sure to visit them.

Really enjoyed your video of the Parkway, Ive followed you mainly for your trips out west, but being a North Carolina native and a residence now near Roanoke VA I seen a lot of the Parkway. But youve turned me on to a lot trails I was not aware of. If you ever get back to Virginia and have a chance to hike Sharp Top Mountain there is a hidden piece of WWII history up there your dad may appreciate. A B-25 fighter bomber unfortunately crashed into the mountain in 1943 and the wreckage is still there, but the location is not published.
Looking forward to seeing more of your high quality videos!

Fun fact: The home in Moses Cone memorial park was used for filming parts of The Green Mile. In the beginning of the movie when the older Paul is telling his female friend about his past, they are sitting inside the front part of the home. I've visited there often, as it's not far from my home in Blowing Rock. Also, the shed where Paul kept his aging mouse, was also on this property. However it was made for the movie and then torn down. The Blue Ridge Pkwy is a beautiful drive, my absolute favorite.

The Pisgah Inn serves a KILLER chicken pot pie, as well as trout that is caught just down stream. It has a killer dinner time view.
Next time youre in the area, venture off the Parkway a bit to Jackson/Macon/Transylvania Counties of NC for more waterfalls. Not far from Looking Glass Falls. 100+ falls in that area. Check out Whitewater Falls. 400+ ft. high and usually good, heavy flow with free falling water. Stunning in the fall.
Thanks for visiting NC!

What a great video! Love that you did that all with your dad. I've been on the parkway in NC several times, but not in Virginia. I live in Miami, FL, so I like to do fall trips up to NC and TN. Going to NC in October. Husband doesnt travel, so I go solo or with my adult daughter when she can go. Trails are always full of people in fall, so I do meet nice folks along the way. Thanks for sharing.

What an awesome video! Reminds me of a trip I took with my older son out in California where we drove down the coast from San Francisco to Big Sur and camped out. My younger son is now stationed at Fort Bragg NC and my wife and I were looking for a long trip back home taking in a part of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Looks like Blowing Rock is a decent stop on the way home.

You definitely need to go bk to Julian Price park to spend the day.
It is so relaxing plus many activities.
Blowing Rock is definitely a good place to stay also. I live about an hour from Blowung Rock at the foot of the mountains. In my area we are 1 of the biggest apple producers in the country. Even though we are 1 of the smallest areas.

Thank you gentlemen, I really enjoyed this. I live in Florida but I am from Warrenton, VA. I used to go home every chance I got and Mom & Dad would take on drives anywhere I wanted to go. which was always to the mountains. It's my biggest wish that I can make this trip myself before this life ends. Many happy memories and I think it's beautiful.

At 51: 57, the small building with water running into it is a spring house. This is the old fashioned refrigerator our great grand parents used in the Appalachian Mtns. As a lifelong resident of the area, I must say you did an incredible job with your camera and commentary. I love that you actually did research and placed facts in your narrative.

Tom Dooley hang down your head and cry yes Ive heard of it, and once in your head it stays there. My mom and her dad went to blowing rock when she was a kid. It seems to me you would want to pack out most of your lunches and if you have an electric kettle an A/C converter plug for hot tea if youre not a coffee guy you are good to go

Early May 2023, we visited 9 States out West, that was a beautiful regions.
We went to the blueridgeparkway last year 2022. At another time last year we went to Upstate New York,
it's really beautiful there to walk the trails. I have been to 40 States so far!

I have spent a month exploring skyline to the end of the parkway and i didn't even touch a drop of what you can see. there us over 300 structures registered of historic places, over 120 trails and over 200 overlooks which most have a trailhead to views, waterfall or cultural history. but my wife love the lookout towers

Well done all around. The BRP is truly an American treasure.
Being fourtunate to live only about 30 minutes away, I'm there most on my bike most every weekend during the summer. I've made three end to end rides, with so many stops I've never made, and this video has filled in a lot of missing details.

I live in NC and the Ridge is my weekend playground. Watching your video was like watching a love letter but you missed one of the BEST spots to stop in VA: Chateau Morrisette. It would have been a nice place for you & your Pops to have lunch and some nice wine. You will have to come back!
reply

So glad you all came thru my region and YES tell pops not to hang down his head that I know the song Tom Dooley and it was taught to us in Elem school in this area. Still sing it today! So glad that you two are spending this time together with your videos. You have a fan here in Virginia.

Watched this and what a great job. Im from Wilkes Co. NC home of legend Tom Dula( Dooley. Ive included some vids of Stone Mtn. State Park. Our county has a tremendous history. From bootlegging and NASCAR to Daniel Boone. Lowes hardware began in Wilkes. Keep up the great work!

What a beautiful trip! Thank you Josh. Wow, I had forgotten about Tom Dooley. That was actually the first 45 record I purchased. I saved my babysitting money and was so excited about playing it on my new HiFi stereo. Thanks again for bringing that memory to mind.

I LOVED the song Hang down your head Tom Dooley, hang down your head and cry. Hang down your head Tom Dooley, poor boy you're bound to die, by the Kingston Trio when I was a teenager! And yes, John Denver's Take Me Home, Country Roads is a GREAT song!

. lol. Trish, you made me laugh with your reaction to seeing a deer. I live in Kentucky, and they are in my backyard. Stop by if you're in my area. You guys will enjoy the views Kentucky has to offer. I love your travel videos they are awesome.

Awesome video! I have been to many areas on the BRP yet more to see. Used to drive part of the parkway outside of Roanoke as a short cut to work each day
Peaks of Otter - eaten there often, never have stayed at lodge unfortunately

I genuinely believe your father would feel much better if he used both trekking poles (to give him support) and a proper hiking backpack (w/chest straps and waist straps, e. g, Osprey day backpack) to redistribute the weight evenly.

I used to live on the Blue ridge parkway at the 150 mile marker the brick house beautiful place
