I like how you have a solution for all the hate items, very positive: ) I came back from there recently and had a great time, but being a lone traveller, found it difficult to go into those cafes literally overflowing with lively groups of folks enjoying themselves (actually was rather envious. I ended up getting my lunch at bakeries! Actually what I hated the absolute most about Catalunya was the SCARCITY OF PUBLIC RESTROOMS! I thought I just must not be looking in the right places until my host (non-Spanish) confirmed my suspicion. Her guess was Spaniards must have huge bladders! I learned to control my water intake and take advantage of toilets when I could find them (whether I needed to go or not.

I'll be nice about this. Catalan is not a mix of Spanish and French. At all. It would've been more accurate to say that it can be found somehwere in between because it sounds close to both. But when you say it is a mix, it's like comparing it to Spanglish and that it was born out of speaking both languages in the same space and time.
Catalan was born at the same time as all the other languages of the peninsula (except for Basque which is way older dating from god knows when) and it evolved and developed in a distinct and separte region, being a different language in it's own right.
I'm not even catalonian but it grinds my eas to hear stuff like this.

i have to say that i love this video, and you are right the most of the time, but neither catalonia or spain are good places to work! You earn few money, and you have to pay a lot of taxes, you have to pay for almost everything and everything is expensive because we eran few money! I hope you understansd this hehehe, I say it 'cause i'm catalan, even though I study english

Our first visit to Barcelona was wonderful. When I asked a man on the sidewalk for directions, he responded in English after my initial overture in Catalan. (No parlo Catala, parlo Anglais) Additionally he said he was so happy that we were visiting his city. Welcoming hospitality with grace are the Cataluyans.

It's too bad there's no videos on Tarragona with its ancient Roman walls and ruins that are some of the best preserved in Western Europe. What a shame. There's also the beautiful Costa Brava and Cadaques. Don't just see Barcelona, get outside the city. Trust me, you will not regret it.

we use to change ouer lwnguage in front foreigners for respect but if you think it quiet is you than you c ome to our home, a little beat of interst about us before to ciome will fantastic. when i go to others countries i try to speak their lenguage

Mark, you're always complaining about the service but honestly, I think that you should not compare European service to Amercan service since (as far as I know) there are no places in the world with a service like the one the US has.

Catalonia is not different from Spain, they like to think that they are but they are really not, they just speak a different language. They were part of the kingdom of Aragon and have NEVER been an independent country.

didn't you do a video on Savannah georgia? You certainly know how to pick your cities. Barcelona is amazing. I pick Spain over any other place. But Savannah exceeds all my expectations for a historic peaceful US city.

Catalan language is daily spoken by the 40% of catalans, but if you focus on Barcelona city and its metropolitan area, catalan comes down to 30% aprox. If you're a tourist, knowing some words in spanish it's enough.
