Bad services - Czech living permanently abroad explains: The core of this issue is not lack of friendliness, but a culture barrier. Especially Americans expect pro-active stuff talking to you, offering you extra services or goods, coming repeatedly and asking if you are happy etc. Such behavior is considered very rude from the Czech point of view. For example, an ideal Czech waiter supposed to be invisible until a guest makes a hint to summon him. Popping up on his own and bothering quests in order to sell more ketchup on the french fries is unacceptable. So how a typical misunderstanding caused by this looks like? Guests come to the restaurant, get a menu, choose a meal. Czech ones put the closed menu on the table and make eye contact with a waiter (yes, that is the signal, a waiter comes. Americans or British wait for a waiter while holding the menu open and looking inside. Which in the Czech culture means I have not made my choice yet, do not disturb me. Therefore, a waiter does not approach them and they got mad assuming, that it is a sign of unfriendliness or bad services.

For the things people won't like: Sorry, but number 2 is totally wrong. Trains are great, as is their whole public transport.
Number 4 is wrong, drivers aren't generally crazier than in other countries and there is a lot of police.
Number 5 is rubbish, while Czechs aren't the friendliest of people around, their service is in general of high standard. Maybe you've only been to the tourist rip-offs. but then don't pretend you know CR.
For things people like: the local food is not excellent. Czech cuisine is very basic, and just not so good.
4 People are in general not friendly, if you decide they are, based on a visit of Ostrava, you are talking about Moravian people, which is very different from Bohemians.
5. It is still cheap, if you leave the tourist traps. you can eat at less than half the price you pay in Germany (East Germany even)
I married a Czech wife, I spend there about 6-8 weeks a year. what you are saying is just not correct, I am sorry.

buses and trains between cities are not really public transport, i agree that they are outdated and slow, but actual public transport in the cities for example Prague is one of the best in the world, super accurate, often and on time always.

The cities were founded by German settlers in the Middle Ages. The culture there is German. The border region was inhabited by Germans until they were Ethnically cleansedaway - Sudeten Germans in 1945

I've visited around CZ at least a dozen times and this super accurate! The country is still recovering from Soviet control however which is one cause for their outdated structures. Still a must see!

. You forgot. There was Once. SUDETENLAND. Many ethnic Germans Expelled after WW2. And before the War. Most Czechs were brutal to Germans. Sorry. But the Truth Hurts.

when I went there years ago, the people were very nice. they're usually very flattered and impressed that you chose them over Paris, Italy, or London.
