My added suggestion is to look up how many properties that this particular host has listed under AirBnB, and where are all those other properties located. There are people who use AirBnB as a platform to run their small hotel businesses, which could be a good thing or a bad thing. Two years ago, I got a private room in Taipei, Taiwan - that particular property was owned by a husband-and-wife team and they rented out 5 other rooms at the same address using AirBnb as well. They ran the place very well. Everything was clean and tidy. I really enjoyed my 3-days stay there. However, I got a different story at one of the rooms that I got in Iceland last year. When I booked the room, the host was one person, and then later the host had become a group of people who declared themselves as employees of this travel agency. This group of people in turn had another 30-something listings under AirBnB located at different parts of Iceland. We also ran into some problems before arriving at the property, and at the end made the experience very unpleasent. Now, I would avoid booking an AirBnB property from a host who has too many listings.

Thanks! Lots of great information. Ive rented apts. in Europe for years, and only had one that was iffy.
Make sure you look at many photos. Even better if you can see a floor plan of the apt. If there isnt one on the listing, ask the host to draw one and send it to you. Make sure the second bedroom is not a pull out couch in the only living room. Make sure the bathroom is accessible to all, and not an ensuite off one bedroom when you have a few people sharing.
Check with host if there is something you need such as a washing machine. It may say so in the listing, but confirm with host if you dont see it in the photos. Check the hosts cancellation policy to make sure it suits you. Do all this before you book! You will also have had some interaction with the host, and thats always good.
Also, in Paris now, you need an apt. with a 13 digit registration number, as the authorities are cracking down on too many rentals. Lots of info about this on various travel forums. Other cities such as NYC have rules about vac. rentals too, so be aware before you book.

1. Do not communicate with the owner off-board. Make sure all communication is through Air BnB. If they say call me instead or go to my private email, ghost them. Air BnB needs to see all communication if something has gone wrong. They can't help you if they don't have records. 2. Write reviews. Even good ones with negative points. We stayed in a great one in Naples and it was wonderful. close to train station. it was but they didn't say you needed a mountain climber's certificate to get there. Once we did get there (finally by cab, the transit was great and it was no worry but proximity did not mean it was easy to get there. Another cheap one was on the 6th floor of a walk up (7th floor if you're not British) but I found that out by reading the reviews.

Love this video so much! Weve had some amazing bnb experiences but also some not so good. We got to one in Paris that wreaked of mould and had water running down the walls, the toilet wasnt even flushed! It was bad! And we were travelling with our then 2yo. We left immediately and because the lady never got back to us or to AirBnB to offer an explanation, we ended up getting a full refund a few months later. But weve stayed in some beautiful ones too.
I always think, no matter what, or even if youll be out of pocket, never agree to stay somewhere you feel uncomfortable or uneasy. You can always earn more money, but you dont want to get yourself in possible harms way just for the sake of not feeling like you can say no.

What! AirBnB has pictures by reviewers? Why have I never seen any? Would be good. I always read the reviews before anything else. For example a good cheap place in Tokyo had reviewers saying it's 15 mins up-a-very-steep-hill walk from the station. Not me! Not every day!
Also I weigh the reviews. I don't reject a place because of a 1 star review, if there are many 4-5 star reviews. Even with the best place and host, something may go wrong without it being anybody's fault. My experience with AirBnb has been 100% positive in the last 4 years travelling in South East Asia.

Your opinion please. I won't go into detail about the hot mess I've been staying in in Kensington, but am curious your thoughts if, even though I'm staying for 42 days (and, as you know, paid a fairly high rate, and the ad says toiletries (shampoo, soap, etc) furnished (which there were only empty bottles, should that include toilet paper? I have bought my own shampoo, soap, tp and keep it in my room. Other things stated in the ad are just not as stated. beautiful,
far from it! One plus, it's not bug infested and she's hardly ever here!

I was thinking about doing this to my basement during the touristy summer months in Wyoming but I'm not sure what the qualifications would be and I need to do a bit of remodeling like painting and such. There's 2 bdrms a bathroom a den and a laundry room with a deep freeze and 2 huge sinks. I can offer the kitchen too if they don't mind it being on the main level. I also have and extra bed I can put in the den if need be and they're all full size.

Great video! I really like the part about reading between the lines on reviews. We recently stayed at our first airbnb, and while the location and the host were great, it was also incredibly loud at night. I thought man, none of the reviews mentioned this! but then I realized that you have to read between the lines when people say things like it's in a popular location or close to shops and bars etc.

Little of topic but can anyone help. I need a location perfect in Europe to spend New Years Eve with my partner. Somewhere with lots to see in the day and a few fun places for night time to enjoy ourself as we are in our late 20s. We have already been Bruges, Brussels and Amsterdam this year. Somewhere not too expensive would be fantastic too. Thank you in advance!

Filters are available for what you want in the Airbnb. Look at the reviews and fine print. Sometimes if you don't have an Airbnb they won't rent to you. If you stay at one you get rated also. You need to look at hidden deposits that are charged sometimes when you book if you trash the place or if anything is damaged.
