Those fluctuating ramps at the Charles de Gaulle airport are the worst! We had to use that when traveling with my 85 year old mil for her eldest son's wedding, and I had to help her the whole way so that she didn't fall. We didn't find France at all friendly to elderly travelers. Restrooms down steep flights of stairs, lack of railings on stairs, etc. And she wanted to get a cab to the train station after spending hours at Versailles, and they looked at me like I was nuts. I told the woman at the desk that my mil was 85 years old, how is she supposed to walk to the train station after being on her feet for hours? Evidently, old people aren't supposed to go out?

Another great video, thanks! We travelled a lot with our daughter whos now grown up and she loves to travel on her own now. One thing shes mentioned is how she learned from us to research what to see and best places to eat nearby beforehand. That way she found good food at reasonable prices wherever she was visiting and didnt end up going to the first tourist place she came across once she was hungry! It made her travel experience much better and saved herself money! I always wonder at travellers who complain the food was awful and expensive - avoid the tourist restaurants near the tourist must see places! There are gems to be found in every city!

Longer trips are much more easily managed when you plan an apartment rental in one place, preferably one you've already been to. And a stay of two weeks or longer is much easier when you already have made friends in an area. I've done trips of several months but not by going town to town every couple of days, which gets to be exhausting. Rather a week here, three weeks there.

I am planning to go to the US. I heard from your videos that travelling with a car is the best way to go places and that i cant rely on public transport. But the problem is I am only 17 years old do driving a car is a no go. Should i cancel my plans or wait for a few years.

There is a wheelchair lift at the Acropolis btw, it's just not well advertised. Individuals may be able to convince security guards there to let your parents/grandparents use it if they are particularly infirm. Also when you go to Edinburgh, try not to call it Edinboro! Great video as always.

Hahaha! I was hoping youd get to my question at the end! I always ask my traveling friends the same thing and we all agree! Plus, its a great ice-breaker in social situations!
All the best to you and yours! Safe travels, Albatrosses!

What type of communications devices do you use while traveling in foreign countries? Cell phones from a specific carrier, a specific SIM card for the country you are traveling in, or buy a local phone?
