YEAH! Europe is open to Americans this summer! Hold on Fellow travelers, before you get your bure and international drivers license ready there are a few things you need to know about this announcement. This announcement from Ursula von de Leyen is why we are excite. The Americans, as far as I can see, use European Medicines Agency-approved vaccines, Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, said Sunday in an interview with The Times in Brussels. This will enable free movement and the travel to the European Union. And to make it even better she said in the NYT article - Because one thing is clear: All 27 member states will accept, unconditionally, all those who are vaccinated with vaccines that are approved by E. M. A, she added. The agency, the blocs drugs regulator, has approved all three vaccines being used in the United States, namely the Moderna, Pfizer/BioNTech and Johnson & Johnson shots. What does this mean? a. Europe will be opening this summer, b. You will need to be vaccinated if you want to go c. Expect to need proof of vaccination, like a vaccine passport, but that has not been set up yet. They are in discussions between the US & EU on this apparently, d. You can forget bringing your kids as there are no approved vaccinations for smaller children at this time. But there may be exceptions on a country by country basis. 4. What else to consider? Many European countries still are in some form of lockdown as of the end of April. They most likely wont go from complete lockdown to WELCOME TOURISTS in a week. So this will take time. She even said 5. Based on Ms. von der Leyens comments, the European Commission will recommend the change in travel policy, though individual member states may reserve the right to keep stricter limits. They might not permit citizens from outside the bloc to visit or might enforce restrictions like quarantines, even on visitors who have vaccination certificates. a. So, dont expect every country to be wide open day one b. Also, some countries may not require the vaccine, but a negative test like Hawaii has done to much success, c. Dont think every thing will go back and be standardized across the board. It could be different country by country, 6. What to remember and take note of a. This is great news on the travel front, b. There is no set date for opening up of Europe, it is for SUMMER which for Europeans a lot of time means July & especially August. c. You will need to keep up to date with what countries are doing what for tourists, see Greeces announcement, d. Make sure if you do plan on traveling to Europe this summer have lots of flexibility with tickets and hotels, cancelation and change polices are key, e. Dont expect everything to be open. From museums, restaurants, agencies, a lot have gone out of business, or will still have restrictions, or require reservations. f. A lot will be closed or have limitations, 7. BUT AT LEAST THERE IS HOPE FOR EUROPE AGAIN! I just bought tickets to visit France with my vaccinated mom in August! Thats how excited I am!

Is there any updates on whats open for fully vaccinated Americans? Is France open? or your just assuming it will be by August so you booked now? My partner and have off from July 6th-11th for our 7 year anniversary but haven't booked anything yet. It is going to be a special trip (might get engaged) and we would love to go abroad somewhere but its so hard to tell where is open. We were looking at Portugal but looks like its a no go. We're looking into Iceland as well. We would fly out of NY/NJ. Let me know if you have any recommendations! We're looking for an adventure!

That's good to know Europe is finally reopening again. I'm not planning any international travel until late 2022 at the earliest, when hopefully nearly all restrictions will be lifted. I'm also looking at getting tested for COVID antibodies as I'm really hoping I won't need the vaccine if I can prove I've got them. But for right now, my main focus is finishing university and getting a better job so that I can finally go and achieve this dream! :)

Not sure if youll see this but do you think the restrictions with the Covid tested flights to Italy will change? I have tickets booked for September on a regular flight going to Venice and was curious to get your opinion. Im fully vaccinated and hoping that by then there will be a better system in place where that will be enough to avoid quarantine.

I purchased my plane tickets to Paris for June 11th because France opens to US citizens on June 9th, but I'm so confused with the entry requirements. I know I need my vaccine card, PCR test and they are asking for a sworn statement, but it is not really clear. I am kind of scared, but at least I can cancel my plans by June 8th.

You mentioned greece. just wanted to mention that i have friends there and want to say that people there absolutely do not care about covid. they don't wear masks, don't respect the 2 meters/6 feet. there's still thousands of new cases everyday. so even if you're vaccinated, i would still not go. it's just not safe right now

So, I have a question I want to address the group. I have chosen NOT to get vaccinated, so I know that I won't be able to travel to Germany this year. Does anybody think that maybe NEXT sumner(2022) they will allow people who are not vaccinated to travel? I am interested to know

Please people stand up for freedom of travel with out having to take their jab, violating the rights of individuals to decide if they want a vaccine or not- They don't own this world! We should be able to go anywhere we want.

yeah but you gotta have a vaxxine cult card to go to Europe. for a virus with a 99. 8% survival rate. this is about control nothing more. I was booked for a 3 month vacation last year. what a shame this world is bowing to the globalists.

I am an optimist and already bought tickets and chartered the boat. I am hoping France is as weirdly wonderful as Costa Rica was last month. We went to a national park in Costa Rica and were 2 of 4 people in the entire park.
