I really wish I had more research about car rental insurance before I went on a solo road trip this past summer. I ended up buying car insurance at the counter at Hertz to cover my rental which ended up being more expensive than the subtotal of my online reservation. I chose the pay now option when reserving the rental online and it was around $574 whereas my insurance racked up to $734 (taxes + fees included) since the insurance add-ons were apparantly charged BY THE DAY, and I rented the car for ten days. This trip in itself was done thanks to planning I've done beforehand and I had a feeling I would not get everything perfect. I just turned 23 and it was the first time I've done anything like this, so even though I feel ripped off about the insurance thing I'm glad I got to experience the trip. Next time I might look into buying insurance from third parties rather than directly from the car rental company.

I may be mistaken but I don't believe any travel policy covers required testing. I learned recently in Albania that any testing during travel may have conflicting requirements. But the burden is always on the traveler. You pay for a test but at the airport, it's rare that any employee even looks at your results! You just sign off as being tested and on your way. The main point: even if you are vaccinated, expect a test requirement. Expect to pay for this yourself. Expect to pay anywhere from 25 to 100 dollars per person out of your own pocket. Also--not every airport has a testing center and some that do, may not be open when you need it. So you will be on your own for this to be done. I think it would be a great help if someone would direct people in this matter as travel resumes.

Make sure that your policy specifically covers cancellations due to Covid. I am seeing insurance companies refuse to reimburse for trips booked after March 2020 and then cancelled due to fear of Covid. The insurance companies are stating that they only cover unforeseen circumstances and are contending that Covid was a foreseeable risk after March 2020. I bought insurance for concert tickets and the policy only offers reimbursement if we have to cancel because one of the group has a Covid diagnosis, which must be confirmed by a positive test. Thankfully, all of us have been vaccinated.

(BTW, as of today I no longer have to wear my boot, yippie yay. Ironically, I have a video filmed already about travel insurance that will be out in the next few weeks lol lol. Dankeshoun Tchuss: )

Which travel insurance company have you used in the past and
would most likely recommend for a one-month trip to Germany from the US? There are so many choices out there, it can be confusing! I understand no travel agency is perfect, and whichever insurance you recommend is based on your own experience. Thanks so much! Love your videos!

I remember when I was living in Kodiak and they had an earthquake and all of my family members were telling me to leave ASAP. Uh, there are two ways to leave, the once a week ferry and the once a day plane. Both are booked for weeks in advance (it's an island, you can't just drive away, so. how do you expect me to leave.

When the rubber hits the road insurance can be a scam. The objective of these scammers (opinion) is to pay you as little as possible or not at all. It is difficult to see a sense of transparency in a 43 page insurance contract where all the by the way clauses are buried in non fine print. Be careful.

I work for a travel insurance for the most part everything was good, but some plans have early purchases benefits for pre-existing condition, but our definition of pre ex isnt going to be as strict as what a doctor would say. Also usually insurance is cheaper the closer you get towards your trip.

I've noticed while traveling abroad, I am reluctant to partake in those local activities and nit so much because I don't want to or feel excluded, but because Americans have a stigma of being the center of attention, so I try not and kick the ball when I am the foreigner

Sorry Mark, 3-8%! Of your trip? That's HUGE! As Example: I FLY to France. Just FLight and 4 days is $1000. that's 30-80 bucks! For a budget person like me, that's half of the food costs I spend there. No thanks. I'll just be safe and not run around
