if you speak the language of the country you don't use guest houses. Because there are houses for rent by day week month or year. And you get the local prices, which will work out to be about a fifth of what they will pay in the guest house. That's the thing with many travelers, they are not polyglots. I speak about six languages fluently, so it's pretty easy for me to just walk around the back streets looking for houses with signs on the front gate saying -for rent-

Well, I disagree with you. First of all flights are very expensive even if you find some discounts. Second, most of people who don't earn money in dollars but in a different currency, can't afford to go to these places because spending 10 or 20 $ a day is just to much for them.
It's simple. Just think. Do those people whom you pay only few dollars (for example in Thailand) for rent a flat or a car are affordable to travel by plane! No, they are not!

i dont think people are deterred by the cost of accommodations-upon-arrival, so nearly as they are deterred by plane ticket prices. when it takes months (or even a year) just for plane tickets, it leaves little to none to actually do what we want to do. I would love to explore SE asia, or europe, but ticket costs are too much to reasonably travel. this is my main issue and some of my friends, it may not be everyone-s issue, but just my observation

Singapore, 35$/day, Norway 50$, Sweden 50$, Uk, London 60$(but it can be made cheaper. Thailand with 30$ is -luxury-(like staying in a apartment at 40th floor, solo. But this was pre covid times. Now in Covid time everything gets a little bit more expansive.

I stayed in Kerala ( Varkala) on coastal India for 1k per month canadian for my little family of 4. Booze, food, terrific accommodations on the beach all included.
