Ha-ha: )Funny, I read yesterday this article with amazing pictures of dead animals, probably you are referring to the same one. Just to make the article more scary they missed the fact that thousand flamingos live and bread in the lake. It is alcaline, which keeps most animals away, and makes the area safe for the flamingos. Unfortunately I didn't see any calcified animals: . It is hard to go around the lake, it is quite flat and as you get closer you gradually get into a deeper mud.

Glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, there is so much to see in a relatively small area in Northern Tanzania. Ol Doinyo Lengai/Lake Natron area is so amazing and still not many people visiting the area have the chance to see it.

I asked this destination to be added to a standard safari tour - Serengeti/Ngorongoro. It is four hours driving away from the main route, almost no tourists there. It is possible to travel there by yourself

You should of seen it in the 1970's before they put a road there. Hardly any masai even. You could set up camp, walk all day and come back to find your lonely camp untouched.

Hope you were able to see clearly on the top. The fog cleared for me on my way down, so didn't have the chance to see the collapsed crater from the top: (

nope, they've not missed that fact, I also know, that Brandt (the photographer) just posed the animals in the way it would still look as if it is alive. :)
