DRONE CHAOS! How I Ended Up Flying United Premium Plus

In early May 2017 I missed a connection at Heathrow - partly due to a somewhat short time window and partly due to incredibly slow security line (changing terminals. Originally it was LAX to Heathrow, then Marseilles. Fortunately there was a nice couple returning home to Marseille in the same boat as me, We three went to the airline who got us to Heathrow (big positive shout out to the nice folks at Air New Zealand) and they got us on Brussels Air to Brussels, change planes, then on to Marseille. Got to Marseille Airport around midnight and my checked bag came down the luggage carousel, I grabbed a bus to the main train station in Marseilles then rolled down hill to my hotel. Sure, I got in 6 hours late, but I got there. Had a great time there and then had 2 great weeks in Cannes. The lessons learned - allow more time for connecting flights, and try yo pick flights that arrive/leave from the same terminal.

Blame the IWAD (Idiot With A Drone) for your unfortunate walk of shame.
Personally if I were the German police or airport authorities I would love to shoot down their drones and hand it back to the perpetrator in pieces.
Seriously though, I don't really think that drones should be so readily available for people to buy because if you think about it - it's a pretty serious weapon and the untold mischief that some unruly people could no doubt get up to, surely there's an argument for having to have some kind of license to be allowed to own one and fly it?

As an aviation and a drone enthusiast, I can honestly say, this is disgraceful. The rule is very clear that you can not fly within 5 km of an airport, and it isnt too difficult to simply not fly near an airport. Even if you do accidentally fly into airspace, it should just come as common sense to stay away from an airport. And now the governments have thousands of drone rules and laws which are being put in place because of the small handful of simpletons ruining drones for everyone else, and potentially causing danger to aircraft

Some people just don't care and don't even bother to look up locations were you are not supposed to fly, let alone even have a license to operate it. I am a responsible pilot with a license and i always check out where to fly it when I am filming. I was at Giants causeway recently. knew you couldn't fly it and I came across some person who brought it with him and started flying it. I was so pissed off. Some overseas visitors come here and just do what they like and the citizens are the ones having to deal with the fallout.

I flew United's Premium Plus shortly before the pandemic from Paris CDG to Washington IAD. I liked it, I'd say its fairly equivalent to domestic first class with the wider seat and more leg room, pretty good meal too. Its also a quiet area with only a few rows. Its good for the day time westbound Europe to US routes, but going in the other direction eastbound its a redeye, so if you can get business class in that direction its better since its a flat bed seat, while Premium Plus is not a flat bed.

Frankfurt airport its an absolute nightmare.
Its so confusing, one person tells you to go The left side, when you get there after walking for ages, someone tells you, that The other way, when you get there you realize, that you are where you start, And The clock its ticking, And after some miles of walking, And dead ends, And turn overs, you finally get to The check in, Wich is 1 mile long.
Its depressing And physicaly exhausting.
Try to avoid, Frankfurt airport.

I am pleased that you were pleasantly surprised at what you got on board your United Airlines flight from Frankfurt to San Francisco.
They are not really an airline that I would choose fly with for a few reasons.
But given the kind of day that you had I can well understand why you would love the extra legroom and the glass of wine together with a very nice airline meal.
This is one of the up sides to unforeseen circumstances such as the airport drone attack.

Playing with drones is ok, but they have to know the rules, there are places where you can fly with drones and places where you absolutely cannot / must / cannot do that.
Fortunately, the rules for drones are being tightened to prevent these kinds of situations.
But people also have to think about how they deal with it.
That is the same as in traffic, you cannot drive 100 in an 80 area.
Stick to the rules and so it stays fun for everyone.

I love how polite you remain, despite the fact that you are stressed out and jetlagged! I too, like many people have really appreciated your vlogs. Your Loo Reviews are my favorite so far and some of your travels are quite entertaining. I do sometimes wish though that you would stay in one place for more than one night, but I completely understand the need to go everywhere. :) Happy Travels and I'm happy to say I became a patreon of yours!

Actually first time Ive saw this video. Im a drone flyer, registered in both the USA and UK, most folks who fly drones are responsible and would never fly in restricted airspace, such as near an airport. I couldnt find any information on the event or if the culprits were found or any political responsibility claimed by groups.

Re watching this as I nearly missed a connection. I wonder what insurance Noel had. I currently got an Admiral Policy. I need to look into getting a better one next year as I've been traveling a lot. It's at least a lot better than my original CoverWise policy learned a lot from that mistake: ) I've claimed on Admiral once but lacks some coverage

I remember flying with continental before they were bought by united sometime before 9/11 as a kid. Really made an impact because the pilot let me step in the cockpit during the flight and even back then I was into aviation since my father always played flight simulator. They even gave me a pin which I had for several years.

At first I was like, why didn't they just put the passengers all on a bus instead of individual taxis? Then I noticed the cab clipping along at 175kph and realized, well they'll probably get there twice as fast in individual cars rather than a limited bus. Gotta love the Autobahn.

I think if you are found to be flying a drone that disrupts flights at an airport, you should receive an automatic ban for life from flying to or from that airport. I love the way you handled it Noel, like a seasoned veteran. You're a class act! Great video I love your content!

Also, my cancelled trip this year, all flights were British Airways, which they cancelled - thank goodness I had the insurance and while it took about 9 weeks, I received a full refund. Considering all the cancelled flights and such, it was understandable.

8: 50 it was as if he was one of the people who block the seats on the bus. I put my bag on the seat next to me now but only because of corona. It has a sign on the seats anyway to tell people not to sit there but some people just try stuff.

I am a drone pilot and Its really annoying when people fly there drones in places there not permitted because it means that more rules get put in place even for people who just want too get a good camera shot from the air. Great video

Normally according to LBA rules, flying drones in a controlled airspace is banned. An UAS must be flown in visual contact with the pilot (distance 100 meters max) and not near airports and hospitals with helipads.

Yea drones have a bit impact on an airport happened a few months ago at Dublin 3 different times and many flights diverted around Ireland and when they found the man responsible for them he was arrested and charged.
