Anyway, first time flying Japan domestic was quite an experience for me as well, with all the little slips of paper and everything. I flew Skymark on that same route. Cool thing was they actually sold desktop plane models on board and they were only about $50, with a wood base and everything. Of course I had to buy one.

I'm an American travelling in Japan for about 15 months. I didn't realize that the Do in Air Do was the last syllable for Hokkaido. But I was somewhat stunned that you used a taxi from Narita to Haneda until I realized the time difference between your flights. I have also used a taxi from Narita to downtown Tokyo in the past, and was previously told that a part of the cost for the ride is due to the highway toll charges. These fees are quite high since they are largely responsible for paying the cost of the roads, and to a lesser extent, to encourage passengers to use public mass transit rather than individual vehicles.

I smiled watching this video. Japan is a lovely country. I miss it. I lived there for a couple of years when I was in the Navy. I loved taking the trains over there, loved the people, loved the culture. That airline looks just delightful. Quick way to get to Hokkaido from Honshu. I've never been to Hokkaido, but have heard a lot about Sapporo. The Japanese people are some of the nicest most courteous in the world. I would have stayed there 10 years if I could.

As a 30-year resident of Japan I have flown Air Do (read as 'Do' as in 'Just do it') on several occasions and have to say I agree with you Noel. They are a very pleasant way to get up to the 'Scotland of Japan'. By the way on your departure on 34R at HND you flew straight over my apartment around 90 seconds after departure. Something akin to a near miss!

All of us locals are just wincing when we heard Taxi from Narita to Tokyo and then Taxi from Chitose to Sapporo, the trains are the obvious choice, but I understand when you are tired and time crunched that deciphering train lines and schedules are difficult. Hope you are staying for a little and enjoying Japan, it really is amazing.

Missing the flight is an issue, I look at 3-4 hours for transit. From landing to boarding. only slipped up on my local connection flight so far. Did get a name call for a flight from Munich years ago, the other dude did not make it, got a bendy bus for me and lots of black looks. Caravelle? Board at the back? late 60 s: -)

Hey Noel, just a suggestion but if you are going to go for a holiday with your family, come over to The Maldives! Home to the largest seaplane operator, TMA. You can review the various domestic flights here as well. They are not super quality or anything, but you can vlog about it if you are coming for holiday of course!

Thanks for the great video Noel. Great to see that Japan has a cheaper domestic option available. Im wondering if any of the passengers you sit next to during your travels ever have an issue with you blogging? I know talking on public transport is frowned upon in Japan so wondering how you navigate it. Cheers!

Yes l flew with Air Do back in April 2019, Haneda to Hakodate, Boeing 767 Both ways my friend was the Capt, he's a Bulgarian and flew for Air Do 2003 til 2022, he's retired now and enjoying chilling out in Bulgaria, he flew a total of 28. 500 Hours 18. 000 on the B767

Hi noel. Great content. Have you flewn tag guatemalas airline? I think on emb145 one atr and one saab. Things shake and wobble. Did mention the lack of ac? Have you flown Avianca lately? Not the colombian flagcarrier of the 90s. Its an experience. south america travel.

Hahaha, a happy-go-lucky traveller. Lots of information available on the JR website for rail travels around Japan. Pretty sure there's a train ride from New Chitose Airport to the JR Tower. A train ride would only cost a fraction of a taxi ride.

Flew on Vanilla Air a few years ago from HKG to NRT. They are a Japanese airline who were taken over by Peach Airlines. They were very efficient and friendly as well. The welcome received in Narita was also a very positive experience.

Japan has this, sometimes annoying, method of always doing things correctly. Money is often not an issue.
They see a need, they study it (and NOT for years where some study group makes tons of money) then they fix it or do it.

Ok I don't like to be critical but you could have taken trains instead of a taxi and it would have been more affordable. The trains in Japan are the best in the world; honestly no one would ever take a taxi from Narita to Haneda.

I'm hopefully going to Japan later this year, flying in on Cathay, and plan to fly from Tokyo to Sapporo with Air Do. Noel comes up trumps again with this itinerary, I hope my trip goes as smoothly as yours (minus the taxi fees!

Japan is awesome for plane spotting, every airport seems to have large roof top viewing terraces, camera holes and well stocked shops. The best one Ive been to is the new international terminal one at Haneda.

Now that you've visited the Scotland of Japan, I'd heartily recommend a flight to warmer climes, somewhere like Yoron (JAL) or Yonaguni (Ryukyu Air Commuter, both of which are accessible from Naha, Okinawa.

You do not see anything bashed and damaged in Japan, can be super efficient but also bureaucracy can be a nightmare when dealing with government agencies and can turn in to a massive paperchase.
