Inside Japan's INSANELY LUXURIOUS First Class Bullet Train! Tokyo: I have been living in Japan for about 25 years. Made many mistakes in my years here. Once I was trying to flush a toilet and pushed the emergency call button by accident. Two guards came to help me! LOL. A couple of weeks ago, I got a train pass for Tohoku. It Didn't take me all the way to Hokkaido but I used it to go to Aomori. It was quite a lot of mental gymnastics to figure out the stystem. I had to go to one particular station to buy the train pass. After that, I had to make reservations well in advance. I couldn't use certain reservation areas, I had to go back to that one place I got the pass at to pick up my tickets. I made the reservations online, which was also like putting a 5000 piece puzzle together to make sure I had the right dates, times, connections. etc. Then I had to pick up all my tickets at once from Tokyo station. After we got the tickets, getting through the ticket gates was also confusing. We needed at lot of help. It was scary keeping track of all those tickets but at the end of the day, for the price we paid, it was all worth it.

You amaze me that you have been trailing round luggage this long, expeciallywhen you travel business class. As world travelers we have only used carry on for over 15 years, since the time we missed two connections in one trip waiting to collect and re-check luggage. Once, bitten as they say, and we've never looked back since. When people say to us how do you manage with so little, i have a standard response a) 90% of trips with luggage you bring back clothes unworn, and waste hours deciding what clothes to take. b) you do know that wherever you are hoing, they fo have washing machines there too!

A big contrast between British and Japanese railways is the British strive of modern stations to be architectural masterpieces and spaces. and can't build high speed lines. Whilst in Japan, the stations are purely functional and the investment was made in the high speed infrastructure and trains, not a shopping centre tagged onto a station.
As for the prompt departure times, I was delayed leaving Euston travelling to Liverpool last week by 15 minutes as they couldn't find the driver.

Love your travels but especially the attention to detail and explanations you give to even the smallest of details. Funny story. My wife is Asian so I am in an Asian food store and I see Sapporo beer and bought a 12 pack. Got home, chilled and went to enjoy it but it didn't taste like the Sapporo I remember from years ago. I looked on the can and it said brewed under license by Sapporo Beer Inc. by Schlitz Brewing Company, Milwaukee, WI. So there you go. They won't fool me anymore.

Hi Noel. Me and my wife travelled to Japan several years ago and went from Osaka to Tokyo to Hiroshima and back to Osaka all on the shinkansen. We bought a 7 day Japan rail pass which was great value as it could also be used on the Tokyo overground railway to get around and it cost about the same as a return ticket from Osaka to Tokyo. I loved Japan, it's so clean and efficient and the people are very friendly and respectful. Cannot wait to go back someday.

Noel mate when youre in different countries and your camera is flickering it means your framerate is not matching the flicker rate of the lights, change your cameras framerate and it will go away. This is due to whatever the standard Hz is for what electricity mains operates in - in Japan for example, their electricity mains operates at 50hz so your framerate needs to be at 50fps to stop the light flickering.

As a United States Navy brat I approve of the Top Gun shirt. My father was stationed at Naval Air Station Miramar in the 1990s(Go Padres) and the Top Gun theme from the movie will always be linked to the sound of the GE F110s as I saw Tomcats up and down the I-15 corridor.
Miramar is now a Marine Corps air station with the Navy Fighter Weapons School (Top Gun) now located at NAS Fallon in Nevada.

Its interesting that you are travelling with cabin baggage only as we have decided to do this on our next long trip, we will be travelling for 2 months and have got fed up of both dragging large bags around and the damage caused to those that go in the hold. Our last trip both large bags were damaged one on the outward which was then repaired and then the other on the way home.

Another great video and it makes me envious as Japan is on my list but I have not yet visited. If you go to Shanghai PRC suggest you try the Pudong airport Maglev. It does the 32 km journey in about 7 minutes and travels at 431 Km/hr. Keep up these fantastic vlogs - we appreciate them so much.

They seem like they want to be quite helpful!
Beautiful scenery, and countryside
Very cool bullet train.
Japan is just so high tech
going to the loo at 200mph.
A 200mph pee or a poop.
The Japanese toilets will do everything for your bottom.

Your Reports are very informative for folk with limited mobility, who will be able to see the world from their sitting room chair. Thank you very much! PS, I do watch your GA reports as well, and enjoy them very much, as I have not flown a PA 140 since 1980!

This is what happens when a company doesnt strip everything for profit and ship all the money to offshore accounts to avoid tax, this is wat happens when a company invests its profits not people and service, this is what UK companies fail miserably at.

Great review as always. Good to see you travelling by train for a change. I always use train where possible particularly for domestic journeys. Worth considering if you have a choice of arrival and departure city airports. Avgeek and Railgeek for me.

Hope the trains have controlled atmospheric pressure like aeroplanes these days. Back in the early noughties when I was last there it was painful for the ears every time those bullet trains went through a tunnel. Hardly conducive to a luxury experience.

Noel, your wife must have the patience of a Saint raising the kids while your living the high life on every plane/train between London, Sydney to New York. How do you get away with it? I can't go for a pint in the local without getting a lecture.

You wont have any worry about making train connections in Japan. The trains are pretty much always on time unless something very unusual happens.
Ordinary class on a shinkansen is also very comfortable and much cheaper than Gran Class.

I've got status with Marriott. Disappointing that the seats on the train weren't in herringbone fashion with little sliding doors for added privacy. Why werent we given a full tour of the seat showing such marvels as storage bins?

Great video here Noel, and this train gate thing happens to me nearly every time I go on a train the ticket always declines and before I was traveling though a London station and the gates shut on me with some force

12: 00 The Carry-on Pro weighs 4. 3kg empty! The carry-on weight limit in Asia Pacific is 7kg. As you found with Zip air, this means you are liable to have to check it in after all, totally defeating the purpose.

Why dont you just wear a headset for your mic so you dont have to hold it at all and you could have it by your mouth? That way both your hands would be free. I see so many people doing it that way.
