If you are planting hundreds of trees, heeling them in makes sense. But for your numbers soak the whips' roots in water for a good hour before planting. Make a bigger slit, soak it and add a handful of slow release fertiliser. Your dad 'got it' when he said that the well-fed horse chestnut grew much more quickly/larger.

If I was cutting kindling with my hatchet I would first place the axe head on the piece of wood then tap it down on the cutting block, with my non hatchet hand at the bottom of the piece of wood making it close to impossible to cutting my hand off

They make a tool called a Hoedad, for planting trees.
Similar to a Hazel Hoe, but with a longer head.
You just chop it into the ground and lean, to make the hole. You use the handle, for leverage. Much easier for planting.

Can you make a video detailing exactly what you would need for a year alone in the woods? What equipment would last that long etc? Do a challenge maybe? I know you re married so you probably can t stay out that long

Been around for a long while now. Really enjoy your uploads. Do you have a video on how to tell what tree is what I would love to know how to identify the different trees. Cheers

with all the clay you have in the soil, why not start doing some natural pottery for your area? would make for simple storage containers without bringing in all the plastic stuff

I planted a broadleaf wood of about two acres 33 years ago. These trees have now grown into young established trees which will well outlive me it s my legacy

What was the name of the tree nursery? They had a very good selection of trees and would like to have a look myself. Thank you.

I literally thought on the thumbnail you were going to be making brooms. I think what you actually do is more worth while
