I believe scientist/biologists, etc. have determined that due to the lack of cooking primitive man (or neanderthal) ate raw food and in order to do that they had a very different digestive system than what we have today. It was more animal like than human. There is a movie that made a joke of the concept but in reality is probably a viable way they learned to cook their food. In the movie two cavemen were fighting over a piece of food and wound up doing a tug-of-war over a fire and the food began to cook and they suddenly smelled the cooked food and thus cooking was invented. Another possibility is that perhaps primitive man thought he was done eating his food but there was more left and he just tossed it down but it went into the fire and started cooking and so on. Primitive man had no religion and no gods so that theory is out the window. Gods and religion are man made beliefs. Nothing more. Primitive man did not have the mental capability to invent that. It's a known fact that primitive man's brain size was only 1/2 or 1/3 of man's today. Their skull size proves that. They were more animalistic than human.

Recent research has also shown that chimpanzees also prefer cooked food to raw food. It is thought humans such as Homo erectus first began controlling fire around 400, 000 years ago, although some anthropologists believe early humans may have begun using fire up to 1. 9 million years ago. If this is true then fire was around and being used well before the times of more recent Gods. With the evolution of human beings became the dependency on cooked foods scientists believe based on how our bodies have changed. I think ultimately it would still be just guess work how humans first came across these ideas though. Might have just been dumb luck, trial and error, and then our early ancestors decided they liked it and because of that may have aided in our continued evolution.

The nutrients in cooked foods are more easily digestible for humans. Eating raw foods actually takes more energy for your body to digest. Fire and cooking food over fire predates homo sapiens, but the question still remains: how did early homonids start cooking over fire? Somehow they must have seen the correlation between cooking foods and disease over time and preffered cooking food. Over many thousands of years, and indead species, our bodies now are less suited for eating raw meats whereas pure carnivores have more acidious stomachs. Interestingly, dogs will prefer cooked meat over raw meat if given the choice, so perhaps it is animal instict? It is a pleasure to watch your videos Keep up the good work.

I think TAoutdoors, JoeRobinet and Scrambled-O should all do a whole video impersonating the other person and their homeland style bushcraft. For example: TAoutdoors -> impersonate Joe and Canadian style bushcraft (moose meat, say eh much as possible, traditional snowshoes, maple syrup, etc)Scrambled-o -> impersonate mike and do British style bushcraft & cooking. (British tea & biscuits, accents, etc) JoeRobinet -> impersonate scrambled-o and make it as American as possible haha. Would love the see all three of these edited together. Might be a possible thought for a future video series for you guys to collaborate on (All in good fun/educational of course)

I'm guessing: After a forest fire (from primitive negligence and/or natural causes, a group of nomadic human-like-species wandered through and found that some animal had been thoroughly burned but the meat was still edible even though it was days/weeks old. So they began cooking their meat to preserve it for longer periods (assuming they had methods of making fire. The next group used fire to remove tannins, toxins, or bacterium from eukaryotes -- although they didn't realize that this is what they were accomplishing, all they knew was that food that had made them sick previously is now edible. Cheers

I think Yours is a great Theory My hunch is simplistic, I'm just thinking Fire had to be first primary for warmth after it's discovery. Possibly wanting to ingest the warmth, early man tried simply heating his food, alas discovering cooking? Perhaps, I'll also take this opportunity to let you know that I enjoy your Ch. immensely Interesting, educational, important and I love the fact that you highlight and film the details so much better then some other sources I've seen. With great respect and appreciation, . Oregon Mike H Old timer Sub

Raw meat & fish doesn't make you sick - BUT it takes much more energy to chew and to digest it. Actually it is cooking that allows a better utilization of the calories in meat which gave our ancestors an advantage over other carnivores. Most probably primitive man tasted roasted meat first from animals killed in a wild fire (e. g. from a flash of lightning. The smell of fire and roasting is intense and surely was frightful to primitive man at first, because all instincs told them that fire = dangerous so better avoid it. ATB Gereon

You can eat fish raw, tuna and herring for example and the primitive men ate raw food. They had a stronger immune system that worked better against raw food. Are immune system changed when we started cooking are food because it tasted better and now we can't eat raw food because are body is used to cooked meat. The primitive men started cooking food pure out of curriosity. They started to experiment with fire, the second that it was invented and that is how they discovered to cook food.

I don't think it would have been as dramatic or 'discovered' as that. First man discovered how to control fire, once they managed that it would have literally been the first day someone would have decided to cook flesh and vegetables. They would have seen what happened to things when burned from forest fires etc. The cultural knowledge of fires existence would have preceded it's manufacture and control buy a fair amount of time I would have thought.
