Bushcraft Camp Update 13 - Primitive Shelter, Fire Pit Cooking, Overnight Camp

The Bushcraft Camp Update series is back. I build a Primitive Bushcraft Shelter with Wood Roof and Raised Bed. A storm destroyed the previous natural shelter. We also expand the perimeter walls. Towards the end we also catch and cook deep fried fresh fish on the fire. The big lean to shelter has a window and there is still room for the ladder to the hunting tower. There is also plenty of room for my dog. My Dad joined me for part of the adventure but went home in the day. I stayed for a solo overnight at the Bushcraft Camp so that I could continue the shelter building the next day

Nice update Mike. The Fort looks amazing, reminds me of the historical forts made over in the US in the early days. The cod looked amazing too, not that I'd be caught ever drinking that brand, might be ok for beer batter though. The only advice I might give is to get your tarp out over the outer wall so that when it's pssing down, the rain runs down the the outside of your camp wall and not down the inner wall. Great videos and love the effort you put in to record your adventures. Love what what you do and the effort you put in to bring us along. Thank You so much for us old guys that can't get around so well anymore, but still love the lifestyle.

Pioneers in North America learned early on to build their forts/camps in a clearing so as to avoid the damage brought about by felled trees during a storm. Nevertheless, I enjoyed watching the construction of this childhood dream. My brothers and our friends built similar structures when we were kids yet not so complex. I loved the cooking portion. Well done Yet I must say the 'boil in the bag rice' came along after we were full grown. Not to mention the salt and pepper grinders in a Bush Craft video.

Waterproofing error in wall When you were adding the poles for the wall under the green tarp, If you would have wound the green tarp over the top pole in the wall, instead of tucking it under, it would encourage even more rain to run outside of the wall instead of down the inside as it will now. yes you filled with bracken, but that will also act as a sponge. not trying to tell you what to do as you are doing a great job already, just one small idea.

Great job and it was nice to see someone use the back of a knife for striking the fire steel, the way it's supposed to be done. One thing I might do different is the pine needle/mulch insulation on top of the tarp. It will get heavier after a rain, and when it is full of moisture, it will be a big heat sink, robbing your heat to evaporate the water. My biggest concern for it is that an ember lands in it when it is dry, it would be a quick fire.

Your opening cinematography is second to none and when combined with the awesome sound track you lead your followers into the ever popular world of Bush Craft and we are transported from our computer chairs into the deep woods to spend time with our friends Mike and Graeme. Then suddenly there is a loud voice shouting Honey, Did You take out the Garbage, it is then that reality sets in. Keep up the great work. Florida, USA

Oh yeah forgot to tell you, the easiest way is to bring a small piece of steel pipe, dig a small downward trench into fire pit a put one end at the base of fire, the air will feed thru and bang a supercharged smokeless fire. We have made them as small as your fist(great because you can just set your pot or frying pan rite on top the air is fed from below) or the size of a basket ball.

You're doing a beautiful job on the shelter - wish I'd had that skill when I was younger and we used to build forts to play in. would have been the envy of all the kids to have one like that. As for cooking; you need cast iron cookware - with a Dutch oven you can cook anything. Thanks for your videos; I enjoy them so much they help me sleep

I am so glad you put these in order. I know it is gone & you moving on. Still this build is worth watching again. Did you know para-cord is flammable? I tried to burn the ends one day & nearly burnt down my house. Not really, but it scared me pretty good. I think now it is suppose to be a fire starter for the woodsman. Thanks.

Hey mate nicely done on the bushcraft. If you are still making improvements would recommend notching the logs under the bed to prevent any rolling and as for the walls. use dirt and water mix to make a mud and put that on the walls for a filler. I have seen that done on numerous other videos and works.
