I wish we had chestnuts here in southern Appalachia still. Long before I was born a blight came through and now they're very nearly extirpated. I still have fond memories of the chestnut at my great grandparents' house, and not-so-fond memories of a barefoot child finding the nuts. My grandma remembers though. She's told me stories about how they were so common the mountains sometimes looked white when they were in full bloom, and how they'd go off and harvest them for a bit of fun as kids. edit: I did some reading, and it was worse than I thought. Not just extirpated, but critically endangered and almost straight-up extinct. American chestnut used to be 1 in every 4 hardwood trees in the Appalachians. It makes that one chestnut all the more special. I think should make a trip back there this weekend and see if it's still alive.

Mike, loved the nice chilled approach to this one, looks like you had a nice chill out there buddy, that is something I desperately need this coming leave bro, I will be making a fire pit myself and will try get it down on film. So many different variations of how to do but I think the geography of the place dictates this, as PaleGhost69 says clay is great IF you can get it. I'll construct mine with a bottom feed breather pipe (if I can find suitable flat stones for this) only thing is you have to clean it out every so often, which means lifting the stones. Anyways really enjoyed your vid mate once again great vid. hats off to you with the Guinness its Waaaaaayyyyyy to heavy for me and one can bloats me more than a hot air balloon lol. Anyways keep these awesome vids rolling buddy

Don't take no offense to this like your other videos set for 2 now poorly thought-out I think you need to spend a little bit more time on building places for your fire they look like hazards should have dug a small pit in the ground place rocks around the hole you dug then mix mud grass together for the mortar then Place more rocks on top and repeat until you reach the desired height lot more intense work but more gratifying to do it that way then throwing something together without no thought process and taking a chance on burning down the forest or anything like that really disappointed in this video

I am really phobic about spiders. I am well aware that this is not a great phobia for a bushcrafter to have, so it's one I continually try to overcome and therefore I was determined to watch the entire episode. I may have been hiding behind one of my cats, with my fitness band congratulating me every 5 minutes on my cardio workout as my heart was beating so fast, in terrified anticipation of the spiders appearing on screen but when it finally did I was like, Oh thank god, it's just a little orb weaver. Pretty sure if it had been a huntsman, or if it had moved, I'd be in need of medical assistance.

Howdy. You should build an underground storage area lined with a tarp. It could be a wine cellar with shelves or a place to put the tools so they are out of the way. You have inspired me to build and take up bushcraft. It allows me to be creative with my buildin and take a break from the real world. Thank you so much sir From a mike to a mike. good job on all of that work I hope to build somethin close to that too.

Just curious, do you have a building permit to do this? At, our place, if you build anything without a permit and get caught, you will get some thousand dollar fine and thrown into the jail depending on what you built. On public land, I once set up a tent and slept in it not knowing I need a permit, and I got thrown out of the tent at midnight and taken to the police station and payed 2000 fines.

Great video To help with beard itch I would recommend using beard oil. It will soften the skin underneath your beard and keep it from itching. Mariner Jack based out of Kent is a great company to buy beard oil from, quality stuff Also a beard brush is essential to clean debris out of your beard and help spread the beard oil to your skin.

When I reverse my battery in my head lamp, I have a small piece of cardboard I keep between the negative terminal and the spring, when I put the battery back in correctly to use the lamp, I put the little piece of cardboard in my little duff bag. That keeps the battery from making backwards contacts.

Enjoyed watching and now I want a steak and asparagus. Thanks for the dinner suggestion. Looking forward to the overnight video. Does Jax do any of those or does he only go if its for a day trip? I bought the Hawk watch for my husbands birthday and gave it to him today. He liked it a lot. It looks great.
