United Airlines B787-9 Dreamliner Polaris Business Class from Paris to San Francisco Thomas Lerche: I had to write, when you in your video claims that, the 787-9 has a longer range, than the 787-8. I said, THAT certainly is not true, because I have read on wikipedia and on Boeings own website, that the 787-8 Flew uup 15. 200 Km and the 787-9 around 14. 500 km, so I thought, This Guys is Wrong. According to Wiki and Boeing Themselves, you are right, but that doesn't mean that I am wrong, because, I KNOW, that they must have revised after testing and feedback from carriers, because I KNOW, that it said 15. 200 Km before. Now when they have revised this info, I don't know, but I am 100% Sure, that I read 15. 200 Km before on the 787-8 and around 14. 500 km for the 787-9, which would make sense, since they have practically the same fuel load, but the 787-8 is much lighter, obviously, because its shorter, so obviously, it should fly longer, just like the 767-200ER flies longer than the 300ER, so I don't know, how this can possibly be, that they have changed this information, because changed, it has certainly been, because this was NOT, what it said before.

I enjoyed your report; thank you for sharing. I have had a very bad experience with United but it was a long time ago and things do evolve and change. Generally, US-based carriers are not right up there with the very best but its not just because they are 'shit' as some readers so 'elegantly' suggest. The size, wealth and population of the US has made the airline industry very competitive and over the decades carriers have had to fight very hard to stay in business. This impacts upon their ability to do as many refits and upgrades as others. Also, because of the relatively long distances the general public have come to think of flights like others think of suburban buses so there is less focus on the luxury debate. Overall the mindset is slightly different from other countries whose airlines constantly rank higher in the surveys. I'm not American but I'm sure that if they needed to do it and decided that they wanted to compete with the higher ranked airlines, they could.

Just came across this video. I enjoyed it. Yes, I marvel at views from the window. Especially those daylight views of Greenland or Iceland from some 30, 000 feet. Spectacular. On a recent daytime westbound flight from London to Toronto, without a window seat, I went to a door, opened the window shade (777-300, and soaked in the view above Greenland. How unbelievably special. Like you, I started out in Europe (London) early morning, and arrived in Denver late afternoon after looking down on Greenland and its icebergs in the space of a few hours WOW Can't comprehend how other people can be so jaded as to not see such a journey and spectacle as incredible, and incredibly privileged. Ditto on the previous comment's reference to airsnobs. Thanks for the video.

I'm quite happy your flight was free of rough air as our last experience with United was horrible including not being giving any beverage service as the rough air made it unsafe to offer service and then after missing our connecting being given a pillow and an ultra thin blanket and being told to go sleep on the floor while we waited 13 hours for our next flight. We were told it was our fault that we missed our connection as our first United flight arrived at 2145 and the door to our connecting United flight was closed at 2150 but we should have had time to run from one end of the airport (Newark) to the other end. United's only response was sorry you were unable to make your connection but it wasnt their (Uniteds) fault.

Brings back memories of my often travels on ual960/961 in the early 1990s. SFO to cdg. The business class seats were luxurious leather and you would just melt into them. I recently ual 787-9 from sfo to Singapore in coach. 17 hours of misery. Crammed in. Should be illegal. Almost had to go into a trance to tolerate. Also, flying pisses me off these days. I like my window shade UP as I like to look out the window. The world is a beautiful place. I want to see it. But then all the assholes complain that they cant see their screens because of my shade being up (glare. They can watch that shit anytime. How often do you get to see Iceland from 37000 feet?

Hate to burst your bubble, but the food on United Polaris Business was some of the worst food an airline can give me. For the price of that fare, the food comes from the airport caterer's United uses-for example, PVG-SFO, United contracts with China Eastern to prepare meals for the flight supposedly to United's high standards, LMAO there. Anyhow, it was 2 of the most unappetizing gross meals I have ever gotten. Even Cathay Pacific's Premium economy food is way better and their Business Class far exceeds United Polaris. But I am flying United Polaris Class again in Aug 2019 to PVG again because they are the only nonstop from SFO.

This isn't even good enough for Premium Economy. I guess US airlines really concentrate on internal flights and transatlantic is a secondary item. Fine having a window, but with that comes no privacy; stepping over a sleeping person to get to the aisle. Centre seats are the only ones with aisle access. BA get criticised for this on their 20 year old seats. United finally catch up just as BA realise what a bad idea this is and start to ditch them. Welcome to the 1990's United. At least if you are sat by a window it is less likely that you will be dragged off the flight. Law enforcement will go for aisle access

Great job with the video but I don't share your enthusiasm for United. At one time they were a great domestic airline. I flew them many times to Hawaii from the east coast of the US. I also flew them a couple of times to Europe. Their service has deteriorated over the years and they have fallen out of favor with the American public, myself included. They now nickel and dime you on everything. For the price of a business class ticket, the WIFI should be free. When flying to Hawaii, I prefer Hawaiian Airlines and when I go to Europe, my preference is Lufthansa.

Congratulations This is what a flight report should be It contained all the information that one would need to make a decision on the service provider. What more can I say? I have made my decision on my next trip from Europe to USA. Thank you, keep up the excellent work. PS The photography over Greenland confirms my own opinion from a trip on BA from London to Vancouver. That was when I first really understood the meaning of 'Glacier'. For those who miss it, I feel sorry. This is one of the wonders of the world that should be on everyone's Bucket List

United were an excellent airline when they first took over Pan Ams trans pacific routes. My first flight on a 747 400 was from San Francisco to Seoul. The food in First Class was unbelievable Now they are the same as any American airline. Constantly playing catch up with no innovative service changes. Hopefully Polaris will give them a nudge up but even with 2x2x2 seating they will still be lacking in my opinion. Forget Etihad, Qatar, Emirates, even Turkish Airlines or SAS. They all have an edge United is incapable of reaching, no matter what
