Dixie and crew did nothing wrong in the store. Dollar General is really opening themselves up for a lawsuit. Potentially the police as well. I would say the group does have a certain look to them. Unkempt male and female (Sorry, Dixie) and a guy wearing lots of black with a streamlined backpack. I know you are hikers wearing expensive clothes but the average public does not. Most don t know the difference between Patagonia and Old Navy. Meth may be an issue in the area and medicine would be a high theft item. Customer who reported was mistaken in what they saw. The Employee should have never took that as enough to support. Dollar General does run really light shifts with few employees. The employee was doing what she thought was right and was scared of the group. The police officer was polite enough may seem a little gruff but was outnumbered. I think he realized his mistake when he asked where the witness was! In my state you have to pass the last point of payment to be charged with shoplifting. I know the at is not true in all states, some areas concealing a product can constitute a crime. Dixie did neither but it had the appearance she did. In my state of Nebraska the neck knife could get her in more trouble than the theft. Any fixed blade knife can t be concealed without a permit. A pocket knife can be up to 3. 5 and carried concealed. It s a dumb law and I would hope in a situation like this the officer would not charge because Dixie disclosed it right away and she carries on neck as convenient for hiking and self protection as a woman. I doubt Dollar General would like this video because even a lawsuit they could win would cost way more than the medicine value. Good job staying calm, other than the impromptu striptease! Everything worked out, gave your heart a workout and cost you a few minutes.

I had to re-watch the beginning of the interaction with the police officer. Totally uncalled for. He was rude af and had no right to treat you like that. He was being aggressive from the word go. I am pro cop, in fact I spent most of my adult life repairing their communications equipment. I know the world has changed in recent times but they need to back off the military tactics when they are dealing with people. As far as that employee, She can be heard in the video stating I saw you, Then when reviewing the footage she tries to lay it off to the officer that the customer told her. She needs to be fired. Anyway, Sorry for the rant. It's just upsetting to see such Bull go on. The ONLY people that handled that situation correctly was the Hiker Trash.

I go to Walmart to check things out or buy small things I need, once a week or sometimes less. I've never stolen a thing there. But most times, the workers there track me down, or call the security to track me in the store, just to intimidate me. I remember a few years ago one worker there indirectly said to another employee if she was stealing again, which was obviously meant for me. I indirectly took my wallet out and looked at cash I had and even pulled out my bank card and smelled it. They are nuts and can't differentiate between thieves and good customers. This happened to me at the mall too because I visit it once a week to Play Pokemon or hang out around.

My Goodness! Not the video I expected. I contacted Dollar General via their customer support and sent them a link to this video. Shocking way to mistreat hikers that they must see as customers ALL the time off the trail in a small town. I hope that you can put it behind you. Although I support all law enforcement- I certainly believe he should have given you more than just the benefit of the doubt. The coyotes sounded hauntingly beautiful, and the tent review was very useful. I will look at other brands instead. Tell Aaron I liked the change in music very much. Keep your chin up Dixie, you acted like a lady.

I might add that it would be only fair to the hiking community to let them know to avoid this place in light of how you were treated. The clerk clearly stated to the officer that when she viewed the video, she (personally) saw you put the medicine bottle in your pocket. Later, when watching it with him, she admits that you had to have put it in your pocket (also not true) when you walked off camera. In other words, no way she saw anything the first time. My assessment is out of towners beware. Love your videos, Dixie. We ve been watching since the AT.

This would have been way more exciting had you gotten in a fight with the policeman while screaming about your Constitutional rights, and for him not to touch you. You could have gotten arrested and called for a jury trial. Maybe contempt of court if you got in a shouting match insulting the judge. You need to take more advantage of click bait. Of course this is another excellent posting. Great job Dixie. And much appreciated review on this light tent.

In this country ( Germany ) you could not be treated like that unless you has actually LEFT the shop without paying for something! People use their own shopping bags and put everything into them, as well as their pockets, before dumping everything on the counter to pay. A disgraceful situation! Sorry to see someone getting so upset over such a situation and then trying to justify themselves when they have done nothing wrong.

Ouch. That's a lot of money for a little hothouse flower tent! And about the accusation and police intervention - the approach wasn't all that respectful, and you were all impressively cooperative (too many Karens about. I hate it when people leave aggressive dogs out to go after hikers and always take pictures as well - an extra reason to carry hiking poles. But it looks like a beautiful trail for winter-hiking. Cheers!

Dixie don't apologize for putting your own cell phone (or even gloves) in your pants. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, people do that in stores every day. This was a complete fail by Dollar General and that employee. Calling the police based on hearsay and seeing someone go to their pants is ridiculous. I will think twice before I go back to DG (and would never dare venture to one in Summerville GA.
