Originally Internal Frame back-packs just had stiffening stays, but they (manufacturers) quickly learned such packs could NOT carry a heavy load, and year after year they looked for new ways to stiffen this new style of pack, ultimately including an actual frame-work inside the pack because none of the gimmicks they tried could match the stability offered by the External Frame packs!
Now, the industry will never openly admit this fact, because it created a new revenue stream (no pun intended, but if you do your research, you will discover what I say is true.

Hey Dixie, thanks for the great vids. I've been hooked. Living in Zambia, (see my YT vid saving kafue national park one step at a time) they give me something to look forward to when I get back to the US. I am a southern hiker and am familiar with the AT and southern trails. Your trips on the PCT and CDT are inspiring. You had a HMG pack for a while but don't say much (or I've haven't seen you video about it yet) about what you thought of it. You briefly mentioned it here but am curious about what you had and how it compared to your other packs. I am guessing you prefered the other packs as it didn't seem to hang around too long. Thanks for the vids.

I made the pack I currently use. It's small at just 30 liters but it weighs 19oz and I have done trips and was able to carry all I need for 4 days. I don't carry much and have a 8. 7 lb base weight for summer gear. With 4 days of food and a liter of water. 16 lbs

I wonder if there is something light but more substantial than a zpacks, as you were looking for, but well ventilated since I sweat a lot. Maybe the levity or exos, but I read the hip belt is so minimum that it is basically useless. Any ideas?

Good hip pads, I hope! Carry All Your Weight On Your Hips! Or, end up like me in bed with a broken back! Most of that damage was from a long career in fire and rescue. But, extra heavy packs camping and hiking added to it.

You should check out Seek Outside backpacks. I just switched out my HMG 3400 for a Seek Outside Divide. Very adjustable, much more comfortable carry, X-Pac fabric. Only gripe with it is that it doesn't come seam sealed.

Hey Dixie! I too love the pack. Had it for a while now BUT, It broke on the OHT. the strap connectors ripped. Great customer service tho. they sent me 40 bucks to fix it. good luck

Question: I noticed you aren't very tan for someone who spends a dozen hours a day for months on end, is this because your hikes are mainly in the shaded forest? or what?

Do you reckon the Mariposa is also a suitable pack for the entire PCT? I'm wondering if it will fit a bear can for example: ) happy trails!

my friend has this pack. we each carried 50 pounds minimum in are packs. this pack handled really well and she had no problems with it.
