I just wanted to say that I thoroughly enjoy your videos; I'm currently watching your episodes on the CDT in sequence. I am not a hiker for the sake of hiking, per se; my bag is fly fishing in the mountains, and hiking is more of a means to an end - but, a lot of the tips you provide apply to what I do as well. I'm approaching some life changes in my life too, from a different angle; my wife passed away 15 years ago, leaving me 3 daughters to raise. Now, they're all adults, and the last one is about to leave the nest; I'm in my early 50s, and I'm looking to simplify things.

Our black dog, Tucker with white socks strikes so much like Fancy. My wife Kathy sectioned hiked with him on the VA section SB. it was so hot and dry, i picked him up at Devils Backbone in Nelleysford. Thick black fur is not likable to 90+ and no rain or water. He hence stayed with me on resupplies walking in 10 miles and back out. A complete companion outside of my wife. He may Kathy's completion of the VA at one of the best hiking endeavors in my life. I did pick up a water jacket to keep his body temp down. It came highly recommended by SARS.

Hi Dixie, love your videos. Your mom and pup were icing on the cake in this one! I think the insect at approx 2: 00+ is a Horntail Wasp of some kind. Years ago when I was young and fought fire in the Cascades, an oldie firefighter told me that it was called a Stumpf_ucker and that besides laying eggs in burned tree bark, there were known cases of them laying eggs in the back of firefighter's necks (due to smelling like smoke. He was a fun mentor that way. anyway, did you just unconsciously feel the back of your neck?

I think it depends on the breed of your dog. Some dogs are bred for long distance travel like a Huskey while other dogs are bred to sit on your lap. My dog tolerates camping, kinda likes kayaking, and sits on floats while we swim. He does NOT like hiking. But, I got him because he's a lap dog and a great pal to my only daughter.

Your Mom is really inspiring. You are too (I've been marathoning your amazing vids) but as an older woman planning a hike, your Mom just cinched the deal for me that I can actually do it. And I won't be taking my dog (was on the fence about it, though dogs are such great companions, and Fancy is so precious. Thank you!

This is my favorite video that you've done so far. You took every different approach to the narrative, editing, music, and so many other aspects that are strikingly opposite from all previous episodes I've watched of you previously, and obviously the dog is entertaining: )

I would say that Fancy is hot under her harness and is trying to cool down. That is probably why she is sliding so much in the snow. Remember they don't sweat like we do. So if she is rolling around on the snow. Pull her harness and let her cool off in it. :)

Just a thought, if you don't have a tree limb to hang the bear bag away from the trunk of the tree, you might could tie another line to the bags and as the bag goes up pull the other line and tie off to another tree to pull the bag away from the trunk.
