PCT 2017 Thru-hike Episode 6! Dixie gets her first taste of the record snowfall in Southern California. Scrying, : Ya gotta be careful in that deep rotting snow. The bottom can drop out and you sink in deep. Snow shoes with ice cleats are probably better than those shoe cleats and you tend to break through less if it's dirty underneath. They have light weight snowshoes for long distance hiking. I messed up my knee last winter because of breaking through on rotting snow. ( in my yard) we get about 10 ft-15 ft in some areas around here by spring. If you are ice climbing that is to the point of needing ropes then you have to go to the shoe thingys.

My time wasn't quite as long ago as Larry's (below, only 50 years, but I remember it well. Had an argument with my friend over staying in the tent or the cabin. I won with the cabin, and there was a horrendous thunderstorm that night. All great memories. It all looks pretty much the same. Still hiking and planning on starting the Arizona Trail SOBO a few weeks after my 70th birthday in September!

Good video. A little drama in the night with mid-night visitors who apparently were hiking in the dark! Still can't imagine wearing shorts, sure long pants are sometimes hot but - all that exposed skin - to snakes, bugs, scrapes. ( I doubt Dixie reads as these there are so many comments.

Only discovered you a few days ago while you were on the App Trail. Just wonderful to see the lands and adventures. Hit the wrong button and skipped a section of this. But I went back and watched it all Figured if you went back to cover the fire areas. it's the least I could do.

This is my first time commenting. When I was 14 years old back in 1974, I stood right where your were standing on the summit of Mt. San Jacinto. It was such a clear day. I looked out and saw the far away Pacific Ocean.

From Peter Gabriel's song SanJacinto.
A rattle in the old man's sack - look at mountain top -
keep climbing up
Way above us the desert snow - white wind blow

I was watching this with my wife trying to figure out what eye sacks were. Being new Yorkers, finally figured it out lol. Ice axe, too funny love the videos.

Back in the day I lived in Banning and delivered mail up old highway 1 up to Idyllwild. Those were the days. That was 40 years ago.
