Well. . I have to say you are the reason I got off my butt. Packed my gear. knew what to buy. And started backpake hiking / camping. I live in Maryland. So that's where I started. I have had so many crippling injuries. I'm not going to go down the list of them. But. they are to each limbs of my body. After watching a few of your experiences. I knew right then. That I missing so much! I was letting my life pass right by! I was told on my first injury. That I would never walk the same. .ever again. I had to relearn how to walk. But I did it. I wasn't going to give up! So I went right back. And was severely injured again. Had many surgeries. I was told that. I would loose some if the movement in my rt. arm. I didn't let that stop me. I had to work hard to get it back. went back again and was severely injured again. after four more surgeries and alot of hard work. I went back again. momma did not raise a qitter LOL.
After a few year geuss what happened. I was injured two more time after that. And haf three more surgeries. And a year and a half of rehabilitation. I excepted that I would never be the same again. I had lost hope. Then I started watching your videos. and I wished I was right there with y'all. After watching the Appolachain trail video. Is when I finally got off of my backside! And start hiking. I have worked up enough courage and get out there again. Backpack hiking and camping. I started small like mile after mike. further and further. I completed the Maryland portion from one end to the other and into PA. . This might not sound like a lot. But for someone who was told by many doctorsI would not walk or lift
This was a HUGE deal to me. and I really want to THANK YOU! And If I could. I would give you one Huge HUG. I wouldn't have tried. SOOooo
THANK YOU DIXIE!
And I hope to see you on the trail one day.
You have been my inspiration and my hope. All because of the videos you out out there for us all to see. Ooh yeah. by the way my Wife Thanks You To! I really Hope you read this!

This was absolutely beautiful. I feel that call to be out in the woods. I've wanted to hike the AT since 2000 when I read Bill Bryson's book. I did lots of day hikes when I was doing an internship in North Carolina that year. It was nice to be able to drive to anywhere close by and hike somewhere just amazing and gorgeous. I think back, that would've been the perfect time to hike it after I finished my internship and had no job yet. Instead I moved back to my home state trying to get job experience. I wish I had put a plan in place to hike the AT back then. I'm sure my life would be very different if I had taken that path. Here I am in my 40's really still wanting to do it even though I have no back packing or camping experience, and have a full-time job I really like. I think it's time to put a plan in place somehow whether I be crazy and quit my job or do it pieces and parts.

Awesome video, i have a question, for people that are on the thick side and older, how are we supposed to squeeze thru for example there was a to rock walls in New york were you had to squeeze theu to walk thru to get to the other side, you said in the video there wasn't even 3 feet of distance between the walls, is there a walk around for others who would not be able to fit theru their?

Hi Dixie, if you haven't checked out the Emma Gatewood story, please do. she first escaped an abusive husband & later her own grown children to live her dream of hiking. she is credited for saving the Appalachian trail. on a PR. Of Keds shoes, a shower curtain, a quilt & a homemade food bag. Incredible story everyone should read.

Very inspiring. I especially liked that you continued on and overcame several hardships including losing your puppy. Did you leave her collar there at the ending point?
