It will not provide enough room for a diagonal lay, but its still really comfortable if you hang it up relatively tight, so you will get a somewhat flat parallell lay (i am a side sleeper, and have slept like this for the last 11 months. This is not ideal for cold weather though, as the hammock will push out on the sleeping bag, and create a small gap between your body and the sleeping bag. It can be adjusted by the cord in the opening in the sleeping bag, and it is actually a good thing for summer (or indoor) use, but it is not suitable for use in cold weather.

I love my Montbell puffy coats. I have the Plasma 1000 and the Ex Light Anorak. Yes they're expensive but they are super warm and light with just the right features. I use them for winter camping, and have never been cold. In fact, they can be a little too warm at times, so I have to be cautious with exertion when sweat could be dangerous. Also, Montbell coats and jackets do tend to be short in the torso. They fit me perfectly, but I can imagine that being an issue for some people.

I understand the idea of reducing weight and bulk by the multi-tool philosophy. poncho is a tarp and raincoat and ground cloth.
BUT, I also realize that Anything that does two jobs does neither well. I love my SOG multi-Tool but it will NEVER replace a good screwdriver & good pliers & good knife & good etc.
So my poncho will never replace my tarp even though I have used it at times such.

Hey Dixie. It's no contest. My Montbell Plasma 1000 Down Parka is warmer and lighter weight than my Ghost Whisperer. Once I upgraded to the Montbell, my GW has been in my truck bug-out bag for the last 2 years. If you do go with the MLD Poncho Tarp, try out Borah Gear and their dyneema bivy. It's a great buy and high quality too.

I'm really excited to hear what you think on that Montbell plasma.
I've been eyeballing the Montbell Versatile Jacket and Rain pants for quite some time. They're pretty darn light and the price tag on 'em is definitely expansive. but so far from what I saw they had some really good reviews. I'd love to see you try them and hear your take on them.

Just for the record i litle bit of math.
MH Ghost whiperer: 75g of 800FP = 60000
MB Plasma 1000 Alpine: 96g of 1000FP = 96000
So the mont bell should be 60% warmer than the MH just based on the amount of down
EDIT: that 60% dont take in consideration that the quilt pattern is better en the MB.

Hey Dixie, have you ever considered trying barefoot shoes? They're zero drop and wide toebox. I tried Altra Lonepeaks but they're too cushioned for me and my feet ache after wearing them more than an hour so this summer I'm trying out Xero Shoes. I'm a beginner backpacker.

I love my Montbell alpine light puffy. Montbell is a quality brand. My ultimate go to for puffy is Feathered Friends brand. They are made in Seattle and superb quality for all down items, but very pricy.
