Close Moose Encounter On Trail In Colorado Backcountry

Rating: 4.0; Vote: 1
Location: Arapaho And Roosevelt National Forest, Colorado. Continental Divide Trail. 40. 3476 -105. 9403 In this clip I was sitting on the side of the trail taking a coffee break just after a fellow hiker warned me of a momma black bear and cub ahead. When I first heard this moose coming down the trail I thought it was that bear, but luckily it was a moose that didn't feel like charging at me with his lady friend. Be careful if you see a moose in the wild because they can be just as dangerous as a predator! CDT Episode With This Clip (My Favorite): CDT Full Documentary: Since I had to cut short a recent backpacking trip due to an emergency at home, I won't be able to produce a new video for this Wednesday. But I thought it'd be cool to post some of my favorite animal/nature encounters from my thru-hikes this week so they can exist as their own clips rather than in the middle of longer videos. For one, there are probably quite a few subscribers who haven't seen them all, and two, I kind of want to make it easier for myself to find them, too!

Wow; I have to say that was one laid back moose, but was he a young buck? And it must not have been rutting season either. Did you encounter the mama bear and cubs? Or do you think the moose cleared the way for you!

Dear Dixie, usually its not a good idea to post coordinates/exact location cause of poachers. I don't know how it is in the US or if the moose is a protected species, still wouldn't want to see them shot.

Either that was a good zoom or way way way too close! If there was a baby around they would have charged you for sure. She might have gotten you while you were looking at him. Clever girl!

Hi miss Dixie from Virginia!
You must smell really good to all the creatures of the forest! You look like wild honey anyway. L. O. L.
Please be careful. Live, Love, Repeat!

I have been physically attacked 5 times by moose in the last 40 years or so. None of them got me but I can say I have had my revenge by eating a lot of moose steaks too.

This is just too awesome for words. Ur so fortunate to have seen them both. Usually in the rut they r aggressive, but I guess these two r just buds. Good job, beautiful video.

Moose are dangerous, and mothers and babys are always dangerous. You did just the right thing. Guts of Steel, Dixie, like I said! Your hands weren't even shaking!
