2025 Bronco Sport Sasquatch First Drive! - More Capable, Bigger Screens!

With the Cherokee taking at least a year off, Ford's Bronco Sport basically has the small off-road segment all to itself. Sure, there's a Subaru Crosstrek, and a Jeep Compass, but neither is as capable as the Baby Bronco. Which is why Ford's updates for 2025 surprised me: they didn't need to do anything, but instead of taking the easy way out, they decided to miniaturize the Sasquatch package. Yep, there's a Bronco Sport Sasquatch for 2025. Oh, and some big screens. What's new On the outside we get steel bumper inserts recovery hooks, and skid plates for the engine, transmission, and fuel tank. The steep bumper insert is an interesting twist as in the front it wraps all the way from the grille to the engine skid plate with the same gauge metal that you find in the full-sized Bronco. Want a brush guard No problem, just bolt it to the recovery hooks up front. Sasquatch can be added to the Badlands and the Outer Banks trim and includes not just the extra protection, but 6/10ths of an inch extra clearance, unique dampers, 29 inch all terrain tires, and combined with the limited slip and locking functionality of the twin-clutch rear axle, the Bronco Sport will simply go places the Crosstrek Wilderness, Compass, or RAV4 TRD can't. On the inside we get a full LCD instrument cluster and a 13 inch infotainment system running SYNC4. Nope, it's not the new system found in the Explorer, but remember the price tag. Speaking of price, it'll be just over $31, 000 including destination, and top out in the mid 40s, but exact pricing wasn't available when I was able to get hands on with the new Sasquatch. How does it drive Well, that hasn't really changed. The 1. 5L 3-cylinder turbo still makes 180 HP and 200 lb-ft while the 2. 0L turbo is still only found in the Badlands trim and bumps that to 238 HP and 277 lb-ft. We don't have an explanation for why horsepower has dropped form the 250 HP rating in 2024, but it seems to be a recalibration for regular unleaded. The 2024 was rated at 250 / 277 on premium, while the 2025 makes 238 / 277 on regular. (Although Ford is saying Premium is recommended, but not required) On-road handling is likely compromised due to the all terrain tires, but off-road performance is enhanced with the larger tread blocks and the larger channels between the blocks which allow for mud to be ejected. Oh, and there are also some new hooks that pop out of the front fenders to help you strap stuff to the roof. Think: christmas trees. Towing also goes up a smidge to 2, 700 lbs with the 2. 0L turbo (2, 200 with the 1. 5, and all models get more standard tech with blind spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control on every model. So what do you think The Bronco Sport Badlands Sasquatch will be around $10, 000 more than a Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness, but it'll offer features and capability Subaru shoppers can only dream of. Are those features worth 10K If not, you can get much of the capability (and the looks) for less in the Black Diamond package on the Big Bend trim, although we weren't able sample that one. #Bronco #BroncoSport #OffRoad #SUV #sasquatch

I personally wouldn't buy another Ford on a bet. I've owned 2 and both had nothing but problems. These aren't even made in America, they're made at the Mexican plant. The Crosstrek Wilderness is made in Indiana with a Japanese drive train.
I bought a Ford Edge, new, and the turbo cooler went bad early on leaving me stranded. I traded it for a Ford Escape, new, which has had multiple problems and multiple recalls. The problems the dealers could not fix or figure out. It would randomly go into limp mode. The recalls included the fuel injectors cracking, leaking fuel and the fuel pooling on the engine before bursting into flames. Ford's fix is to install a drain tube so your leaking gas just drains on the ground for which the NHTSA is investigating them. Oh, and if detected it turns off your fuel injectors. This is the same 3-cyl as the Bronco sport btw. Oh and you can get the 4-cyl Bronco which makes 20 ft/lbs more than it's transmission is rated for. Good job on that one Ford. I'm sure the transmission will be fine. Ford is known for their reliable transmissions afterall. oh wait. No they're not.
The reality is that it doesn't matter how good you think your Bronco sport is off road if when it's more likely to be parked on the side of the road.
You want to know what I think of Ford They've proven themselves to be unreliable and as for Ford's design They've had more recalls than any other manufacturer for 3 years in a row.
Lastly, real off roading as you put it, the Bronco Sport is a unibody C2 chassis which the Ford FOCUS chassis. You constantly degrade the Crosstrek for being a car when the Bronco Sport is built on the front wheel drive Ford Focus chassis with the same engine as the Ford Escape, a proven pile of unreliability. Adding a locking rear diff to that mess doesn't magically make it a body on frame 4x4. The shilling here is out of hand.

My emotional side loves this car, and my rational side doesn’t. On one hand, it looks awesome, it’s super capable, and gives you some off road chops without torturing you in daily driving. On the flip side, it’s sized like a subcompact SUV and priced like a compact SUV, and that price only grows. And ford reliability lately is not good. Even id you can get deep discounts on these, that reliability still gives me pause, as much as my emotional side loves this car.

Around the 8-minute mark there's a funky repeat. We filmed this in a rush and after we filmed part of it we were given additional info on the new Sasquatch so we re-filmed half the video and meshing the two takes together was a pain. We initially included the duplicate section, but we've now gone back and edited it with the online editor to cut it out since people didn't seem to like it. The re-cut version should be live eventually.

Alex, I wish the US-made Escape had such a practical, boxy shape and so many clever features. The only trick Ford missed here is a fold-flat front passenger seat. On the subject of compact but capable SUVs, the upcoming Land Cruiser FJ will be around the same size and sitting on a full frame if it gets to this market. Of course, the loaded Bronco Sport's mid-40s price tag does not bode well for the affordability of other options.

Some nice changes, I'd like that front bumper on my OBW had to add a bar, lights and skid plates to mine but not the same as one with recover hooks. The rear locker the Subaru Wilderness versions should have too. Pricey for the size though. $46k similarly optioned to what is on screen, More than a Subaru Outback Wilderness which is a size bigger. Still some nice changes and I'm loving the green.

I really hate when my luggage gets squished by my pies.
I recently bought a Crosstrek. I looked at the bronko sport. I liked the packaging, but the quality issues were too much to ignore. Brand new demo cars shouldn't rattle like this. Even the one in the showroom had paint flaws and loose trim. You do get extra recalls with your Ford purchase, so there's that.

we had a 2021 Bronco Sport Badlands and LOVED it. Recently traded it for a 2024 Mustang Mach-E. I kinda wish it didn't come with the full size spare as having additional storage space under the trunk floor would have been nice. It was a great smaller SUV and I would buy one again!

WOW! I loved how you showed the examples of the tires/bashplates/parts from the nearest competitors! It was like you brought a computer/video graphic to life with that presentation!
But anyways, not a fan of how they moved the Engine Start, AS/T Off, and hazard buttons so low.

Wish you could get the hybrid system in the Bronco Sport. It's the exact same platform as the Escape and Maverick. I've heard that it might be coming but who knows. Until then, nothing can make me buy one of Ford's Ecoboost engines, especially not the 4-banger variety.

With it being on the mid 40s (for the Badlands Sasquatch) wouldn't this more closely compete with the Outback, and still be more expensive, rather than the Crosstrek It doesn't change the lack of a locker on the OB but you are paying a lot for a smaller vehicle.

I have owned a big Bronco Badlands for nearing 2. 5 years. I’ve always been intrigued by the capabilities of the Badlands version of the Sport. Please indulge my curiosity by buying a Badlands Sport and take that thing on all the obstacles!

I love the look and dimensions of the Bronco Sport. Ford should just discontinue the Escape and take its hybrid drivetrain and include it as an option for the Bronco Sport. The Bronco Sport already cannibalizes Escape sales as it is.

I would love a Ford Bronco Sport L. Just a slightly longer version of this. So you can have more storage/second row leg room and with the second row folded flat, a full size mattress. It’s just a tad too small

Bigger screens are not a thing for me. The perfect screen is about 6 by 5. Plenty big enough. With a switch to reduce the brightness at night, and a switch to turn off the screen but leave the sound on.

10: 22 i think Ford cut costs on the wrong things. They could have just made 6 buttons and spent 20 cents more per car. That thing will break, and it’s also worse to use when it does work

Great design, but a 3 cylinder engine for an off-road vehicle I don't get it. But, for the price, the Bronco Sport is great value! Great review!

This is a super cool package. So weird to see at around 18: 54 mark such narrow tires in an off-road scenario. Normally you see gigantic tires: .
reply

Bronco Sport backseat is really cramped compared to the Escape & CRV. I would like to see the new 2. 0 EcoBoost hybrid systems in the top trims.
reply

I wonder how bad the fuel economy is impacted with this package, extra weight, height aggressive tires. Does it get an upgraded fuel tank too
reply

You are wrong about the bronco sport. Ford calls it a rear locker, but it’s just a clutch. It doesn’t physically lock mechanically.
