The biggest problem with the hatch is they cut out 10in of legroom in the back. They refuse to make a hatch that preserves the leg room of the sedan. I had to pass on this and when I heard the sedan wouldnt have e-awd this year on the hybrid version I got tired of toyotas bullshit. The lack of android auto blocked me from buying a new corolla sooner. They are way too slow adding features and I dont want to buy a 2020, when 2021 will have the missing features. I traded in my 2009 corolla for a 2017 chevy volt. I hate chevy, but the volt is fantastic(more rear leg room, but not much) and I drive 100% on electricity for my commute and around town driving. It is so much faster and instant torque with no transmission gives you buttery smooth acceleration at start and even at highway speeds. Unlike other hybrids, when the gas engine kicks on for range acceleration or super cold temps, the car still drives like an EV and doesnt change how it drives or feels at all(it technically goes. 1s faster 0-60) The used volt had 15k miles and was 23k with a CPO warranty, it was 40, 800 new and has every feature offered but ACC. Buy a used volt or hell, even a new honda clarity that has a very similar drive train. You can dump ICE even if you dont want to pay for a tesla. Used low mile EVs are going to be great deals as people dump them for teslas because they can afford it. Anyone who hates chevy can checkout the honda clarity which uses a similar style of drive train as the volt and carries the full tax credit dropping the price to prius levels.

The Manual in this New Hatch is Outstanding Perfect car to learn how to drive manual or for those purists and enthusiasts who love the engagement with the car. I will take the CVT in this one though CVTs are brilliant, and can be super fun to drive when tuned right and have features for controllable shifting of different ratios. This one is awesome 10 ratios in Sport mode with a launch gear. Way more fun to stay in the powerband on windy roads and corners. The CVT recall is a voluntary recall by Toyota and is related to the torque-converter NOT The CVT parts of the tranny This type of recall could happen with any regular geared auto just as easily if there was a flaw with the design of the torque converter. Toyota is doing the right thing for their customers and replacing the entire transmission with a revised torque converter. Not allowing any sale of models with CVTs until the new trannies are installed. You CVT Haterz need to chill, give the manufacturers time to refine them. Plenty of people love them They drive smooth, some are fantastic for performance driving (like the one I have) they are faster, they get better fuel economy. They will be an integral part of cars moving into the future. All you purists can either accept that, or continue to drive manuals and shut up and let others who like CVTs enjoy them. Why bother with the hate? Get over it.

Really great review and to the point. Although I would personally skip it anyway regardless of its price and feature content due to that very poor rear seat leg room and unnecessary rear mirror swooping which definitely eats into the passenger comfort and trunk space. But here I got another question: Why was Subaru Impreza Hatch not included in the comparison section? You got place for Niro ( a hybrid and Elantra GT which is definitely not selling more than Impreza) and even a yet to be available Mazda 3 but no place for Impreza? A Mazda 3 which is not even available yet is a better comparison than a Subaru Imreza Hatch? I dont get it. Yes I know Subaru are not very generous with providing vehicles for reviews and that does eat into mentioning by reviewers in their reviews, but still. I mean come on

Im not a Toyota fan in general and if I were shopping in this segment Id rank the Civic and the Elantra ahead of the Corolla Hatchback. But Id put the GTI ahead of all of them. (But the GTI is really a different type of vehicle despite its similar size) Nevertheless, the new Corolla Hatchback is miles ahead of the outgoing Corolla IM. And for those attracted to Toyotas reputation for reliability as their highest priority, Im sure it will do well. Good basic transportation as a daily driver. Reasonable versatility of a hatchback. Not bad looking. Good resale. All the things Toyota is good at.

Im not a Toyota fan in general and if I were shopping in this segment Id rank the Civic and the Elantra ahead of the Corolla Hatchback. But Id put the GTI ahead of all of them. (But the GTI is really a different type of vehicle despite its similar size) Nevertheless, the new Corolla Hatchback is miles ahead of the outgoing Corolla IM. A difficult decision for sure. I love my Mazda 3 hatch with the manual transmission. I wouldnt get the Honda, I dont trust turbos. I also would never consider a VW Golf although if they had the reputation of Toyota I would have had several over the last 30 years and to this day. But they use turbos too, dont they? The one thing I worry about my Mazda is problems with the engine in the future, specifically the direct injected engine and its effect on the intake valves. If this Corolla drives well with the manual it would be at the top of my short list.

I gave you a like anyways AlexOnAutos, but gosh darnit You didnt even talk about how the CVT behaves in Sport mode? It has a completely different feel to the shifts, the controllability of the ratios, the lever shifting AND paddle shifting, the 10 different ratios. What the heck man? You were on a windy road and didnt even throw it around in Sport & use the Manual Shifting mode? What a Shame. I really dig your reviews overall, always rich with info but I feel like you dropped the ball a bit here with the Rolla Hatch CVT.

A couple of things Id like to see as part of the review. 1. I assume that a vehicle with blind spot monitoring also has rear cross traffic alert. But could you please also confirm that. 2. On vehicles with adaptive cruise control, could you please differentiate between those that have legacy ACC that cuts out when vehicle speed drops to a certain level versus newer ACC that have full stop/start capability. I will not consider buying a vehicle unless it has full stop/start ACC.

Really love this car. Huge fan of the size. The Civic is just huge now and I am not a fan. The Corolla has a great NA engine to boot. Really think Toyota nailed this. Just wished it had Android Auto but thats a very small gripe. Im shocked that this is one of The few entries with IRS in its segment. Really top of class in my opinion given how expensive the Mazda 3 is and how ugly the Civic Is. Definelty would get the manual.

We have the 2017 Corolla IM & just love it. Our other car is a leased 2017 Fusion Energi but as Ford has decided to discontinue that model we will be at a loss in 2020 when the lease ends. I think we will await the Corolla sedan to see how much room and comfort it overs in the hybrid model. Besides Toyotas reliability & resale value, the dealership service we are experiencing is exceptional. Great video as usual Alex
