Volvos are at the bottom of the barrel if you look at reliability according to both Consumer Reports & JD Power for the last few years. They may look good new and have a beautiful design, but it is still PITA to maintain them. I wish more reviewers talk about how horrendously expensive they can get to maintain in the long run. Reviewers always talk about the poor reliability of Alfa Romeo, Range Rover, Cadillac, etc, but somehow give a pass to Volvo, which is equally worse & is struggling to improve the reliability ever since the redesign a few years ago.

V40 - going to pick you up on a minor technicality Alex, but it s okay, you ve never had the 2012 onward V40 in the USA so will let you off! It wasn t the XC90, it was the Volvo V40 that was always the modern design language and they always knew at 6 years old it d be the oldest model in the line up after the XC90, XC60 and XC40 which you have! I owned a 2013 UK V40 R-Design in Rebel Blue. Merc & BMW we re left behind! Volvo should be the car of choice for anybody with a family, quality product. Cheers

I remember when 240 was a symbol of reliability, safety, and solidity. Volvo squandered all of it. It's now trying to be a cheaper, softer sprung BMW, I guess, but the numbers do not indicate this is a successful strategy. The sales numbers in the US compared to X5 are only 34% of the BMW and declining (according to Volvo they lost 10% in 2019 compared to 2018, despite XC90 being considerably cheaper.

This thing's been on the market for 5 years now and the interior and exterior alike both feel fresh, modern, and really really nice.
I always loved Volvo, and even with the 5 cylinder being gone, they've more than made up for it.
I think I'd choose the V90 over this though. I'd gladly give up a bit of practicality for the better driving dynamics.

The Volvo XC90 should still offer an inline 6 or V6 option
Relying only on unrefined/unbalanced 4cyl engine isn't really a good sales pitch, piss poor excuse on Volvo's part. A 4cyl will always be rough, no matter who makes it. In Australia especially where we have massive standards.

Alex it feels awkward to me, yesterday the G90 made me think about my S-Class, now this, the other car that occupies my driveway, XC90 T8 R-design.
Well, if you see a red XC90 T8 or a matte silver S class in Los Gatos (both are rare colors, say Hi.

Easy to beat: too expensive, a small battery back, so when the gas engine cuts in a T8 becomes a guzzler. No spare tire, very complex technology. A 6 cilinder diesel makes so much more sense in that class of SUVs.

My sister had a new XC-90 T6 Inscription. I'm 5 11 and could sit in the third row comfortably, to my surprise. The whole family had plenty of room. The lease was up and my sister gave the Volvo back. I loved it.

Amber turn signals are superior to red both in terms of safety and style. I will think twice before buying a car with red turn signals, and I will not consider a car with brake lights that double as turn signals.

Can you give an update on any new info on the 2021 XC40? I'm in the market to buy a subcompact suv and can't decide between the XC40 or the X1. Or should I wait to see what the Genesis GV70 will be like.
