It's insane how bad the legroom is in the 2nd row for such a big vehicle. We test drove it and brought a car seat to test it out, could barely fit a rear facing child seat in there. It's 32. 9 of legroom in a 4Runner. and 40. 4 inches in a Honda Accord. I think that shows just how dated the 4Runner is. Reliability and resale is great, but I think people would agree that the gap in which manufacturers are operating at when it comes to longevity in their vehicles is closing. Of course FCA and GM are the exception, I wouldn't touch either with a 10 foot pole.

The actual platform is fine but the interior needs a redesign and they need better powertrains under the hood. This v6 is just anemic for its size and fuel economy, they need to give this the tacos V6 and the 4. 7 V8 for power.
The actual frame, suspension and outside are fine. But Toyota is just making 100% profit on these things at this point so as long as they're selling theres no reason to redesign in, which is honestly why I hate Toyota, they haven't innovated on anything since the prius.

Minor quibble, but the dash is far from soft touch. Toyotas truck lineup all have very cheap feeling interiors regardless of how much you pay.
Which means they begging for a redesign and some modernization. Also, some people have said they wished it had a V8 but that's never gonna happen since Toyota is supposedly gonna kill off the V8 in the Tundra and LX and replace it with a turbo V6. Only the LC might keep the V8.

During the past 3 years, I think buyers knowingly made compromises when buying a 4Runner. Purchases were often based on dependability/reliability, forgoing the creature comforts/amenities the competition has. But Toyota can't ride that wave any longer. People have wised-up. Jeep, Bronco, a used Land/Range Rover - I sense Toyota (as much as I like my Lexus) is getting kicks in the pants.

This suv is a mission specific truck. To be parked and used full time in rural environments that don t have easy access to dealerships and advanced auto mechanic shops. And it does do well in those settings (see LatAm, Africa and Middle East) would I use as a daily in the burbs? Hell no. But for the lag cabin or off beaten areas? Hell yes

Sales don't lie! 4Runner sales have been increasing in recent years. Why? No one will argue that reliability and off-road competency are top-of-mind with buyers. For the masses, Toyota has the Highlander. I see this video as somewhat genuine and somewhat clickbait for its negative commentary. My '13 Limited has been flawless.

This 1990s engine/transmission is unacceptable. A Cayenne Turbo with double the horsepower gets the same EPA rating. I don't buy the reliability argument because modern designs are just as good. Toyota is just unwilling to put in effort and money, as is the case for all of their products, and they sell purely on reputation.

Alex, The unmatched level of #reliability that this 4Runner offers will never go out of style. As soon as the next 4Runner arrives there will be widespread weeping and gnashing of teeth at the classic elements which were lost with the redesign. Hopefully a manual 4Runner comes back some day.

A used GX460 gets better gas mileage even with a V8, because of the 6spd. It's sad that they chose to not update the transmission in the 4Runner. Just got a 204 GX and the ride is way more comfortable, and you can add Crawl Control/Multi terrain select for 500 in OEM parts easily.
