A simple way is to offer three engine options and three trim packages, so shoppers can mix and match. This is basically how Audi and Volvo do it in NA.
Engines: Base I6 turbo, high-output I6 turbo, and PHEV.
Trims: Preferred, Premium, and Premium Plus.
With my rant out of the way, I am very impressed by the CX-90 overall, especially the pricing. I was fully expecting 45K base MSRP, but it's just 40K. At that price point, it's far superior to the Highlander and even the new Pilot and the Korean twins.

Double check, Alex. I believe you can get a 2023 Pacifica PHEV with a middle-bench, thus creating 8-passengers.
I have to say Mazda is VERY aggressive with their pricing structure, in a good way. The top trim of this undercuts the current class favorites, Hyundai Palisade/Kia Telluride by 1-3K in top trims. And this is built on RWD architecture with considerable more power and advanced powertrains. I also think this will finally force Jeep to drop the Hurricane in GC/GC-L. This thing, on paper, seems to be a better buy than the GC-L Limited you get for similar money. But it is smaller than most in the class, but Mazda has never been about being the biggest dimensionally. I'm glad to see Mazda finally improve their dealer experience as well as dealer network. They're trying to come off as a premium mainstream brand, so they had no choice but to address the issues.

Best comparison is to the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV? The Outlander I thought was disappointing partially due to the tow rating being only 1500lbs. Partially due to the trail tests people have run show the traction control doesn't vary power between front and rear, it dumps power evenly front and rear and only manages traction left/right of each axle. I think from the explanation of the lineup the Mazda CX-90 PHEV would be a mechanical all wheel drive setup? I'm hoping, I had a 1st gen CX-5 AWD and it worked amazingly well in snow and ice. And 3500lbs of towing could still accommodate a small rpod sized trailer.

I m sorry what! Over 60k for this? The Palisade/Telluride sales are definitely gonna spike up even more now. The new CX-90 was the closest thing to the Palisade/Telluride s features and luxury, but if theyre gonna charge 10k more, that s a hard sell. Might as well get a true luxury brand at that price. Im thinking people are either going to flock to the Pali/Telli for affordable luxury, or just go with a true luxury brand. Because that is insanely expensive for a Mazda.

While this puts the CX-90 in the range the MDX USED to be before the Type S showed up, that's still way more than the Palisade Calligraphy and Telluride SX Prestige. Hope the sales volume and profit margins pan out for them.

Wow just like that Hyundai/KIA finally have a tough competitor. Seriously impressive they can offer a 3-rows, a TURBO, INLINE-6, and AWD for 40K when competitors are offering FWD and a turbo 4/NA V6.

I could see this really being cross-shopped against a number of luxury CUVs. It seems to certainly be a better buy over the Infiniti QX60. But I can see it being compared to an MDX, and while a taller stretch, Genesis GV80. I'd buy it over the long-in-the-tooth Audi Q7 as well.

Annoyed they took so long! I d rather have my wife in this instead of her model Y. She came out of a Mazda CX5 and we loved that car! Her daily needs are sub 6miles! So this would have been perfect! I m in a lightning so sadly we ll probably never have this in our driveway

PHEV ticks most boxes for me. Only fear is performance up long grades as you mentioned as well as on the highway. Mazda's 4 bangers are very unrefined so I hope this one comes on as little as possible. Otherwise everything looks great including the price.

I really really like this car Alex! I was thinking about buying a Tesla model 3 since they have dropped in price but I might get this instead! It seems more practical. I do wonder if the PHEV will get the 7500 tax credit. That will be a huge savings for us

. 3kWh is pathetically small and must be a misprint with it taking a couple of hours on a level two to charge it. Sad the 6 seater is only reserved for the Turbo S but at least their web page it up to see the 7th (middle bench) seat.

I m definitely intrigued by the plug in hybrid. As a former Pacifica hybrid owner, I loved that powertrain just the reliability wasn t there. Hope Mazda can make it reliable. I wonder if this will push jeep to make the L a 4xe.

Not a big fan of petrol hybrids from personal experience. Either buy fully electric suv or diesel model. Petrol engines not best suited to these types of vehicles.
