This Panda-Colored Sedan Is Fantastic 2023 BMW 7-Series Review

The front end might be controversial, but aside from that the 7-Series is simply the best full-size luxury sedan in America at the moment. From comfortable seats to an easier to use infotainment system than the S-Class, tons of power and an available electric model, this is the luxo-barge of your dreams. You know, if you dream of luxo-barges. Show: The 7 series and S Class use to be inspirational cars. But there's nothing in this car that appeals to me, at all. Screens everywhere, no buttons, no manual vent controls, plastic everywhere that will scratch very easily. And iDrive8 sucks. Climate control buttons are gone. Heated seats and ventilated seats are now have to be turned on / off in software. Even the HEATED STEERING WHEEL BUTTON is gone. No one can dispute that having to navigate a software menu to do simple tasks is safer than a switch you can locate and turn on, without looking, by memory. The fact the common sense has been lost around this is totally mind boggling. Kool Aid drinkers will say use voice commands. But the voice commands are slow and half baked, at best. You can easily press a button and have your attention back on the road before the voice command system is even ready to take your command.

The front end is so ugly. I saw one in person and the first words out of my mouth were, wow, its even uglier in person. When we were complaining all BMW front ends have looked the same for the past 20 years, we didn t mean make it look like BMW had a baby with a Hyundai. Its busy and just has bad aesthetics and proportions to me. Step in the wrong direction completely for me. On another note, I am really disliking the general trend in the industry to make rear LED turn signals do a fade in-and-out. The key advantage to LED arrays over previous halogen setups, besides brightness, was that instantaneous illumination. It is faster and was safer. It alerted drivers behind quicker, Hey, I m braking you should too or Hey, my hazards are on be cautious around me. This fade in-and-out just gives me halogen rear turn signal vibes and I m not a huge fan. BMW isn t the only automaker doing this so this is kinda directed at all automakers going in this direction. Finally, I will never understand why automakers, who make cars globally, that need to make rear turn signals amber say in the EU jurisdiction, go ahead and swap them out for red signals in the US market. The German brands are the biggest offenders of this and BMW is no different in this model.

Pay all that money for that front end design? Alex failed to report the same idiots who designed the last versions of the Avalon and Prius, have so obviously been hired by BMW. As for no rear digital camera, how the hell are you supposed to see the rear when you are driving. I'm afraid people get carried away by marketing and image. Plus, their latest trend of not having height adjustable seat belts! BMW have made some wonderful cars over the years: 328 in the 30's, M1, 3. 0 SI in the 70's, and 5 series in the 80's etc. But to me over the last 10 years, they have ballsed thing up completely with their designs.

The front end looks weird, imo. I do like split-light designs, even on the Juke which sort of kicked off the modern trend, but it doesn't always work. Especially when a car is going for classy over cute. I think what they should have done is delete the top headlights, flattened off the top of the kidney bean grill so the black housing for the lights and grill has 1 continuous line across the top, and rake the hood more from the cowl to the front making the front end slightly lower in appearance. I think that would make it look reminiscent of the i8 which is appropriate for their flagship.

I m not sold on the front design. I like the look of the headlights, and even though I m not a big fan of divorced lights, I think it s necessary for turn signals when LED lights are on - a lot of the time the headlights are brighter than the turn signal and you can t see if someone is signaling to turn.
That said, if I was loaded, I d get one because why not? Sounds like BMW actually made a comfortable road trip car that doesn t have a pelvis shattering ride.

Saying that any part of a BMW 'reminds you of a Hyundai' tells you all you need to know about that car's looks. In fact, some Hyundai models that don't have that 'divorced headlight' arrangement look more appealing to my eyes! BMW have lost the plot when it comes to car design imo; just compare this abomination to the E38 or, especially, the E32 7-series, absolutely no comparison in how they look.

Alex, It appears that you were so disoriented by FINALLY finding yourself in a sedan with ample headroom that you misspoke 5: 09 and called it legroom. Don't worry, I am sure many of us are just as confounded by a sedan design where form actually follows function. I wonder if this radical BMW 7 series will start a trend that eventually trickles down to sedans under 100, 000

Niche opinion: As a tall driver, I can't wait for windshield mounted rear view mirrors to become a thing of the past. They constantly block a very relevant portion of my frontward view.
(You have to duck under them to see things frequently which requires a disruption of your side views mirrors, rear view mirror, and distant front view.

I'm sure it drives great. It's Fugly on the outside, and the interior is chintzy. All that bling is directly aimed at where they want to sell the most, China. Personally, I find it gauche. Its less precise than usual handling character is also a kowtow to the Chinese market, where the softest ride is king.

Yess yes yes Alex is the ONLY one those addresses the rear amber turn signals I think if bmw and these other high end manufacturers can offer all these options and won t offer US customers the option of having either red and or amber rear turns finals is a shame

This is a 130k disposable appliance that uses gimmicks to sell. BMW can't get electric water pumps to last more than 65k miles. Many of these doo-dads will be broken by year 6 or 7. If you lease, enjoy! If you buy, good luck!

I think the option of changing the theme and color of the dashboard from the rear seat is pretentious and disruptive for the driver, a reminder of being just a chauffeur. A very bad user experience design!

The design is HIDEOUS. I don t care if the car has laser rays, a fax and makes coffee, is horrible. Compare that to the delicate, muscular, perfectly proportioned MB S550 and that brick looks like a joke.

Concerning that a 100K+ BMW 7 Series has a rear window screen you cannot see through and does not have an electronic rear view mirror, or an adjustable height seat belt for the front passenger.
reply

The theater screen isn't available in most dealer lots and dealers can't spec it in their next allocation. Can't justify a mortgage, I mean a vehicle without all the features available.
