What crap. He went from Victoria, to Prince of Wales Drive in Battersea then to the Elephant and Castle (about 5 miles in the wrong direction) before going back to Battersea. Either they just decided to put in the clip at Elephant and Castle to show the accidental meet of those Autocar people or the whole things a fake.

Like the style, add a bit of tention, splits screens, and make it seem like it's incredeblty close. Although. that would be a bit to much of top gear. -
It would have been nice to see the eventual route on a map though! And TomTom Live services doen't always work, so I only accept a detour if there are extreme delays.

You should have had another car to measure how long it takes to a normal driver. You could do that by disabling the traffic info on the satnav. Most people don't know the back routes and take the normal ones having no traffic information

You can know all about the layout on the streets on a map, but knowin which lane to be in, how to time the lights, where the speed traps/cameras are, etc. is the X factor of actual experience.

the cab would have got there even quicker if he had just left as he knew where to go while mat was faffing around with sat nav and cabbies don't have to wear seat belts

At least, here in Portugal (and the legislation should be similar, cause of EU and stuff) the taxi drivers are free not to use the seat belt

Good question. Where I live there is plenty of snow lying around and it's still -temperatures. They walk around in t-shirts. :)
