New 2020 Land Rover Defender - the most important review of the year! David: Most comments on here are negative about the new defender. I have owned Defenders for a long time and love them. They are all the things people remember strong, simple, go anywhere but guess what the world has changed and the Defender should have been upgraded about 20 years ago. I bet all the below commentators love their own vehicles which probably have cup holders, usb, climate control, modern driving ergonomics and more so why is so hard to understand that JLR had to produce a vehicle they can sell on mass which is what customers actually want, I love the new Defender and would buy one tomorrow. Yes there will be problems but I own a auto repair garage and guess what all of the following have huge problems-Ford Ranger(gearbox, EGR, cylinder heads, Timing chains) Toyota Hilux(EGR, Injectors, front suspension bushes, Jeep-where do I start, VW where do I start. But all of these vehicles have appealing features that make them liked by owners. We did a trip across the Simpson Desert a few years ago in my Defender and two friends in Toyota Prado's, they said before we left it was team Prado against Team Land Rover-Defender just plodded along(a bit warm inside as ac is not great) but 1 Prado did front shock bushes and a CV boot-2 Prado rear door nearly fell off and damaged radiator. Land Rovers are not perfect but they are a lot more reliable than people give them credit for.

nice car. NOT A DEFENDER. I guess INEOS knew what people wanted so they did build the new defender, the GRENADIER. very sad for defender legacy but very good that grenadier is filling that hole. This new land rover, whatever it's called, should be renamed as a discovery and they should start building something that really represents the defender. I guess they're paying the price in the US because people are now going to buy a BRONCO instead of this pedantic piece of.

What a load of crap! It will not be able to get one day of work in the outback. It will break and there will be no Landrover engineer to be seen as far as the eye can see. Landrover had failed with this SUV. This SUV will be another soccer mothers vehicle. I use my Defender everyday and this new SUV will not be able to keep up. I will keep my real 2010 Landrover Defender Series 110 instead. Thank you very much.

too much tech, dont need it, dont want touch screen in a landrover. dont even need or want interior trim pannels, or facny headlining, all stuff to break get wet and filthy, certainly dont need climate control, its nothing more than a different body, freelander/disco/rangerover it is certainly NOT a land rover defender, its nice but somthing different

I dont understand many peple critisize defender using all round independet suspension without solid axle and ladder frame. Just lool back hummer h1 and lambo lm002, both of them using independent suspension but have incredible off road capabilty. I trust new defender has good off road capability compare to other brands

i wish i had more positive things to say, particularly the interior that looks like hi tech home theater instead of a truck like features with history and massive bones we've learned to experience and expect from LR but I guess I'm getting more gray - perhaps the new generations can afford it too: ) enjoy the google car.

I too was privileged to spend 2 days driving the pre-production versions at Land Rovers- Eastnor Castle visitor experience centre. WOW - their refined prowess and unflappable competence quite literally blew our socks, gloves, hats and everything else off. This car is the real McCoy, it is a genuine game-changer -

The old defender was an affordable work horse mostly just about simple nothing much to go wrong there still hundreds being used on farms JLC are in trouble because they have forgotten who there core customers are this thing is just another over priced vehicle for well I-m not sure who this aimed at?

So much hate on here. Don't dare tell me the old Defender is/was affordable. Total money pits. We were always having to chuck money at them. Tbf in a hard working environment. 95% of the new model will never see a muddy track

Defender should look rugged and untamed. but this new one looks like a Yeti on the front-face. I'm sure that it's very capable on the outdoor but the sweet design is not something for the Defender.
