Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned
from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia: -( In Germany the
Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas
station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station fuel
pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute. From 2027 on in
the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too. as exhaust systems,
turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils. California and
New York will do the same from 2027 on. So no investments should be
done in oil burning cars any longer. They even created a new kind of
crime here, called emissions and smoke crime. :-(

Look wise i love the MK4s all day long there was a huge leap after the mk4 in shape power the lot. I own a GT TDi diesel mk 5 (YES IM OLD N FUEL CONSUMPTION IS A MUST THESE DAYS) 170bhp the DPF is a nightmare. love the look the lot but if i had a choice of a 25th anniversary MK4 or a MK5 GTi no hesitation on the Anniversery GTi. MK4. To me VW tried to keep the square box shape of its 3 older brothers where as mk5 was summit fresh completely. But hey much much respect to all you MK1 GTi owners out there as they are the godfather after all.

About the MK4, the performance Golf of the era was the R32. It would make no sense if they made the GTI as powerful as the R32. Later in 2001, they gave the 25th Anniversary edition 180 hp with an amazing bodykit. So I think going too harsh on the MK4 is wrong, because it wasn't made to be the fastest Golf.

Where was the Mk2! I agree with Steve-s sentiment though, which is why I own a Mk1 and Mk2 16v. I don-t have a Mk3, but a Corrado VR6 instead. Mk4, I agree, don-t get a GTI, which is why I have an R32. This was the car which foreshadowed the Mk5. I don-t have anything newer--yet! Maybe it-s time to think about it

My first GTI was a mk3 16V. Bilstein shocks and stiffer springs transformed the handling. Had a mk4 for but hated it - swapped for a mk1 Audi S3. Have owned a mk5 for 10 years now and love it.

The mk3 and mk4 just look so dull and I-d have no idea they were GTIs without the badges on them, the mk3 especially looks like a general base model golf with a bus seat design inside

Switched over to VW after an '11 subaru legacy and a '06 WRX. My mk7 is going stage 2 in a few weeks and I absolutely love this car. Now if only we can get golf R prices down a bit lol

Why was the Mk2 completely skipped? It seems a bit silly to get all of the GTI's together to completely ignore one of them. Personally I loved the Mk2 and the Mk5.

I have only had mk1/mk2/mk3. I have to say the MK3 VR6 is the one I have to go for out of those 3. Yes nicer interiors on MK1 and 2. but he screaming VR6 never wears off.
