Say what you want about Caravans. my 2010 3. 3 at 250, 000 mi was still going strong - yes brakes and wheel bearings, rad hoses, tires, normal wear stuff. Rear AC coupling above the rear wheel corroded and leaked - yes poor location but it lasted over 150K in the salt belt. Engine and trans no big issues (trans serviced around 150K) until a frost plug corroded out and dumped coolant, engine overheated severely, head gaskets cooked. that sent it to the crusher this fall. Just not worth $1K investment in that old and high mileage van. Unrelated: I'm 70 and remember Speedy Muffler, Midas Muffler, other muffler shops were busy when I was much younger. Our family car as a kid was replaced every 4 years or so and I remember them getting muffler replacements. 2010 Caravan with high mileage and now a 2005 Camry with low mileage. exhaust on both all original with no problems. I wouldn't want to get the couplers apart without a torch but pipes, flex, resonators, cats, mufflers all still good. What happened

Nice diagnostic work but it sucks the PCM appears bad. again. It is possible that the PCM has shut down that output but it would have cleared after a key off cycle if it were monitored. The 4 ohm heater at 12 volts is a 3 amp heater. I don't know this ECM but its usually a high side FET being PWM'd at the gate. Maybe a sense circuit on the output to watch the current if its not a budget ECM build. It's highly unusual that the same circuit is dead on another PCM after a small amount of time. I'd suspect an intermittent short on that heater circuit somewhere in the harness. I'm not a fan of coincidence and everything bad electronically happens for a reason. I would also send that ECM out for repair as a FET swap should be a quick and far less costly than a new/used PCM.

I have found that dealerships hire young techs to do their computer diagnostics. Problem is they don't always do the legwork. If the computer won't go into diagnostic mode they just dis the computer. Problem is certain sensors will stop the computer from going into diagnostic mode. Your computer is bad. Its obsolete. You need a new truck. Put a serviceable computer in and set it up for the vehicle and it does the same thing. Went through the sensors. Bad sensor in the vacuum line going to the charcoal cannister. New vacuum line with built in sensor fixed the truck. 2001 Ford Ranger 3. 0 automatic. Two Ford dealers condemned the same computer. Go figure.

It would be interesting to open the PCM and see if anything looked cooked. If it runs 3 amps and the driver circuit blew it might show some damage. However, I would have thought the electronics should have been designed to protect itself anyway. So some of the other alternatives are high voltage spikes on the 12 volt rail, corrosion inside the PCM or a mechanically bad connection to the driver chip on the PCM board.
Are these PCMs known for a high failure rate Presumably there are techs who can fix the PCM or is it simply cheaper to get a used one

Nothing more frustrating than wiring. I have an Impala, other than mice making a nest and chewing the injector harness, did brakes all around with new rotors etc, replaced both swing arms and tie rod end, power steering pump and hoses, runs great. It only have 246, 000 kl. On it, that’s about 130, 000 miles. Cheap transportation. Body work next. Lots of city driving. Change oil in Fall and again in Spring. Brutal weather in Winter. Never miss a start. Gotta check those speed sensors, got a fault on hard right turn, at thirty k/hr.

jeep in today new jasper trans this is a mail car wheel on the wrong side the trans guy clamped the the wires in trans to the engine. 5k for that trans. from jasper they did a good job on that wires shorted out 01 and 1/2 a Chrysler you don't f with there o2 sensors lucky from them it broke the power wire number 1on the pin fyi this is a big shop 9 bays etc jeep had new oxygen senders install the jeep keep stalling out like it run out of gas. why did that short not fire the Timp by luck

consider having the ecm repaired after you find a replacement a burned out buck converter is usually a pretty simple and easy fix. I am concerned that there is other/intermittent problems with the rest of the electrical cricut that could be causing it to eat pcms. something applying to much voltage on or a relay causing a intermittent short hell I would be checking everything from the domelight to the radio looking for that 1 in 1000 problem thats causing the condition to re-occur

It’s a shame you have to watch people so closely. They will tell you they know nothing about fixing the car! However they all know it’s your fault that the light came on! They don’t mind if you work 4or 5 hrs to fix the car so they can get free work! Seen it many times before! remember it’s not their problem if your business makes it or if you can support your family they just care about themselves lol

The old ever since you. Not your fault a used part fails. I can't even count how many times I heard the ever since you! Not many times in my 45 years in the business was it a valid complaint. The one that comes to mind was when I did a tune up and made the brakes squeak. Or when a customer called with a dead battery six months after we had serviced the car. He said you should have known that the battery would go dead!

I work in telecommunications with someone that used to work at a shop. He said Dodges are the worst quality vehicles in the electronics department. Anything and everything will burn out on them. If you put another used ECU in it, it's likely to come back broken again. Maybe the same problem, maybe something else. Their electronics manufacturing is bottom of the barrel. I would sell it and find a Toyota.

On another note, my daughter has a 2015 Mini Copper S with the 2. 0L 4 banger. This thing throws codes like a Chrysler! It needs a Tank Vent Valve connector, it's throwing a Tank Vent Valve Open Circuit code and the wires are broken at the connector.

15000 miles later after the computer is changed not a come back! Chrysler has bad computers in their automobiles. I have replaced and reprogrammed several in mini vans and trucks it just sucks that the public automatically blames the mechanic that last done work even though it’s not the mechanics fault love the videos and I learn from you specially on the wiring checks for problems

I would put new OEM or reman PCM from the dealer with a new warranty of one year, slap in a new EGR valve too, clean throttle. What I see with the Canadian PCM that come from the scraper are mostly salt damaged from 15 years in the dumb place the Chrysler engineer mounted in the left front wheel well. NGC(pcm) are junk straight from the factory, changed a lot under 7-100000 mile warranty

Mr. O, when you were at the pcm and back probed the connector, you got no light when you turned on the heater. Then you unplugged the connector to test continuity of the wire from plug to heater, why didn’t you put your test light right to the pin of the pcm and activate, this could eliminate any problem with the connector itself, like a loose fitment between pcm pin and connector

I work for a fleet shop for taxis and we have about 12 dodge grand caravans. Very common for the brain box to stop working. The main issue i believe is the location of the brain box being in the wheel well makes it exposed to weather. Good luck Mr. O love the videos as always. I might have to stop by and say what's up I am only about 40 minutes away from you in buffalo.

Before installing a new o2 I would consider just sticking a fuse in line to the heater circuit. Just incase it has rubbed through wires somewhere and is waiting to short again. As a new o2 and pcm could be on the next order list otherwise.

If it's shorting to ground and blowing up the driver then it is just poor circuit design in that computer. All it takes to limit the current is a transistor and 2 resistors. Generally the driver should be tested at 48 volts for survivability. In this case that would be 12 amps through that little tiny heater. 48 volts because of alternator spikes.

My working career was working with the general public. Often in rental properties and you could pretty much guarantee that truth was the first thing to disappear. I mean I would do you know who broke the window no. You know who put those bullet holes in the door no. Yet they you know they were standing there with the gun in their hand.
