I learned that tape the steering wheel like meemaw method the hard way. Had to pull the intermediate shaft in my '19 Ecosport and the brake pedal bracket to replace an HVAC blower motor. I stuck a name brand screwdriver through the shaft pinch bolt hole and through some random hole in the bracketry to both lock it up and hold it up out of the way, and then held everything in place with a small piece of duct tape around the screwdriver handle. Long story short, sliding in on my back, I lost my footing, slipped, grabbed the wheel by a reflex action, shanked the handle from the screwdriver and watched in shock as the wheel went spinning like a fidget toy. Didn't really know what to do because I had never been in that position before. So I carefully, very carefully, turned the wheel all the way in one direction, carefully, and then counted turns in the other direction, very carefully, and then re centered the wheel, then taped that thing up like meemaw always did, with a half roll of duct tape. I will never make that new guy mistake again. Like it was my first day on the job or something. Now I worry about that overpriced clock spring every time I sit down behind the wheel. 22, 000 miles later, it's still working, but I'll always remember that lesson from meemaw. Duct tape is much cheaper than a clock spring replacement. THANKS MEEMAW! And thanks Mr O!

I had the privilege of changing the ignition switch on my 2010 Ford Escape with the big 2. 5 FWD only! It was not too bad. I too had to lay on my back as I could not find the bottom screw hole that connects the ol' multi action switch to the ignition module. Had a sore back the next day! I ended up having to buy a battery. I may need a new ignition module as it's a little loosey goosey. Getting the anti-theft bolt out was pretty easy, a chisel and a hammer! I showed my wife your intro, the Tssss Tsssss Tssss Turbo! cracked her up! I always laugh when you do that! Thanks again for letting us tag along, the Oscar/Grammy/Emmy/Tony award winning editing! I've upped my game of diagnosing problems in repairing my vehicles!

Oh, the dad jokes. I was OK with the first one. But, when you did the gator and crock pot one I was actually screaming, MRS O. lol. Classic dad jokes from one of the great classic dad mechanics. I couldn't do that messing around the air bags. I've seen too many videos on here of dudes setting them off by accident. I was scared as a cat in a room full of rockers when I had to pull mine on my 05 Silverado to replace the dang steering wheel controls a while back. I would squint with each release button and every unplugged and plugged back wire. As we say in the south, Couldn't drive a needle with a sledge hammer in my butt it was so puckered. LOL. Cheers.

Eric, you prove everyday that patience is a virtue! Congrats on doing a great job as usual! You also support my desire to hang onto my 98 Camry and 97 Nissan pickup! They never need much and when they do it's pretty easy! Both are in great condition inside and out. The factory white Nissan suffers from sunburn but every couple of years I sand and repaint the peeled spots! To replace both vehicles with new would run me about $75, 000 and since I retired I only drive about 5, 000 miles a year. Both of my sons are doing very well so I don't need to leave them a couple of low miles late model units. Cheers!

The last couple day been recovering from working under the dash of my 1997 dodge truck. Lots simpler that that ford but at 70 years old you have to slide in on your side between the seat and door jam then turn on your back, it’s off the ground a ways and your feet touch the ground and legs bent down, about the time I got settled then old Charlie shows up and have to reverse the process of getting in to get out. By the time I get out the muscle cramp is so bad it’s almost an emergency room visit needed for emergency surgery. It just sucks working under a dash a lot more when your older.

Mr. O, I used to think that if I could do it, you can. But I've come to realize that everyone is born with a talent, a gift if you will. Some can sing, some can play musical instruments and some can draw, for instance. I can do none of those things, but I can figure out how mechanical things work. I know how a transistor works. I know how a computer works. Not many people have the diagnostic skills that you and I have. I'll say you are one of the best at what you do. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and techniques with everyone.

Years back I bought a used Mercury Sabel, when winter came, no heat, took it back to the Ford dealer, they found a beaded necklace binding the blend door. It had cracked the female part of the door shaft coupler. Wouldn't cover it under their used car warranty. Told them to put a hose clamp on the coupler and put it back together. Worked fine until I got rid of the piece of junk car a few years later after the second time the head gasket went.

Over here in the uk I suspect our annual vehicle safety test is somewhat different to yours in the US. The testers do connect into the cars diagnostic socket, but only use this for Vin number and engine temperature. You mention that you did not want to disconnect the battery as the car was due an annual inspection. Can somebody out there enlighten me to how this would affect the inspection, just curious.

G'day, Eric, and Mrs. O! Awesome job! Enjoyed the video. On the 2016 Ford Fusion - HVAC Stuck On Vent! By the way. Theirs Hokey Pokey anonymous: A place to really turn yourself around! Lol! Thank you! Cheers!
P. S. Why do people keep running over a string, a dozen times with their vacuum cleaner. Then reach down, pick it up, examine it. Then put it down, to give their vacuum, one more chance Lol!

Long live the engineers! What a job. My '07 Civic has the heater fan in a place you wouldn't expect. 99 out of 100 cars it's behind the glove box. mine I had to disassemble the complete dashboard because the fan was located behind the center console, almost up against the bottom of the windshield! That's not a place for one of the most likely things to break when it comes to interior stuff.

I was wondering if you would recommend an autel scanner And what model do use I am a mechanic/technician and ran automotive shops for most of my life. I had some serious medical issues and am currently in a wheelchair but I'm trying to get out of it. I am looking at getting a decent all around scanner and I saw that you an autel so I would like your opinion. Thank you

I think the old style voltage regulator on the back of a dashboard such as they had in Chryslers was more like a fuse then it was a voltage regulator yes it regulated the voltage but if there was a short or a spike in voltage it would pop therefore would have to be changed so it regulated real good it regulated if it was on or if it was off

Edic, you definitely have nerves of steel for tackling Jose like this. I don’t have the patience for this kind of automotive repair. lol!
I guess if I had to do it, I would do it but I wouldn’t be going out of my way to bring in jobs like it’ll lol!
I’d probably starve and go tits up l
Keep up the excellent work

The Noon Whistle must be a New York thing. I was raised in a village way down the street from you, and it was a normal part of life. I assumed every town did that. Before I discovered watches, it was how I told time, at least that one time of day where I could tell it. But I've been away for a long time now, so I wouldn't know.

I worked on a smokers car once where the actuator cables were so gooed up with tar that they were completely stuck. I wonder what the lungs looked like So much extra crap in these newer cars make it such a pain. P. S. It's such a good thing that Mr. O didn't have to wait 2 weeks to get column bolts from the OEM.

All this plastic geared stuff in hard to get at places is going to get old (having to repair them )in the future simply because plastic becomes brittle & we old DIYers & mechanics will want to tear some bean counter a new one when their backs & hands ache from replacing those parts I know I will want to Cheers Mr O.

Watched the video and reminded me of my 2016 Exploder, same job, just needed to remove the console, complete dash (just for convince) refused to use the wings of death for the OEM part. 6 hours later questioning sketchy choices taking on the task was back in business. Keep up the great work!

I replaced a hood switch on my Explorer. Got a Dorman one. Did not work. It would never close the circuit to show the hood was closed. Even tried just pushing on the switch, no go. Send it back, bought a Motorcraft one and worked first time. Just had to wait 4 days for the switch.

Before you start on a problem like this, take a flashlight and look down the defrost vents, looking through the windshield! I have pulled pencils and especially straws out of the defrost vent.
I have been retired for quite a while now, but would bet this problem still exists.
