I worked a lot on those types of Chevrolet. Actually it was okay to work on it but until I had to replace the handbrake cable. It was a nightmare. And the rear brakes did getting stuck often but that is probably because of the weather here. The car I guess doesn't have a coolant level sensor and I guess not even a dial for it (in the video it does have the dial but in my case it was a older/cheaper model) At least I had a costumer with a cruze who blew up the engine because the coolant was empty and it didn't show that it's empty or already too hot. It was really sad. A other costumer with a Chevrolet Trax with I guess the same type of engine did had a dial but still not a level sensor. They realized that the dial for the coolant is getting lower and lower so they thought that the engine is getting cold while driving. But again there was no coolant in the system anymore. Luckily they didn't destroy the engine. As a car mechanic I'm pretty angry about this simple stuff. Even my old VW golf mk 2 had a coolant level sensor and a dial for the temperature already fitted and this car was older than me and built in 1989.

Great videos!
I understand the Chevy Cruze is on the Opel Astra body I own two Opels, a three-cylinder, 1 liter Corsa, and a four-cylinder, 1. 8 liter Insignia in Bavaria, Germany. Both engines share traits of the Cruze motor in your video, but mine are not turbocharged. The Corsa has a 5-speed manual and the Insignia has a 6-speed manual. That plastic part you changed is not on either of my Opels.
The French bought Opel a few years ago, and I will not buy a French Opel. Up until about 2019 they used GM parts. I understand the 1. 4 liter as in the video was a terrible motor in Europe. Especially with the turbo and direct injection. It doesn't help that Opel suggested a maximum 30, 000 Km (18, 000 mile) or one year oil change.

Have a 2012 Cruze that I picked up super cheap and have fixed up as my daughter's first car.
Cooling system and all the plastic is hot garbage but fortunately you can find aluminum aftermarket replacements for both the outlet shown here and the thermostat, both which are known to fail. The multi failure connection point gets extremely brittle and will fail at the slightest touch eventually. Can't believe I'm saying it but Dorman makes a much better replacement as part of their OE Fix line that gets rid of a good chunk of the jank there.
Thanks for all the videos and entertainment. Keep it up!

If she let it get that bad with there is no coolant in the radiator and no coolant spill when you took that apart. Trust me you know it and I know it. There's bigger problems there. here is a turbo there. You have to change the oil every 3000 miles. I don't care what kind of oil you put in it. You always have to do that drive it easy do all the maintenance. It's good engine. it just sucks that all the cars in the used car dealerships are all crap because nobody takes care of them runs them till they break and then trades them in

Put out content you are happy with, Mr. O. They can't all be favorites. They can't all get a million views. I admittedly don't watch ALL of your videos. But, I certainly watch every video that I'm interested in from beginning to end. I never expect great content. I watch to learn. Not to be entertained or for production value. (Yours is fine though)
I think if you focus too much on making engaging content or doubting if even just 1 person wants to to see it. We love your videos. Keep up the good work!

Modern cars have quite a few design errors, all in the name of cost cutting. Putting electronic modules where subject to high heat or water intrusion. Using wire that is a little too thin with crappy insulation and making the harness too tight. Connectors that are nowhere near 100% weatherproof and the use of way too much plastic parts on the engine.
We would rather pay a little more up front, than have vehicles that can break down and leave you stranded with a high repair cost.

I replace those all the time and the thermostat housings all the time. I found them on ebay made from aluminum and stock those now. one cruze i work on has them both replaced 3 times each in 7 years, they only seem to last 2 years. the aluminum ones seem to solve all the problems and once I replace them with aluminum ones I never have to replace them again. The Chevy Trax has the same engine and the same problems

I’ll never quit watching your videos, I’d love to stop in one day and say hi, I’m about a two hour drive from you here in lovely NYS in Cleveland NY on Oneida lake area, been messing with cars since the 60’s, love your electrical expertise, I’m all mechanical, anything electrical I’m lost, hope to stop by for a quick hello someday and hopefully you’re not swamped.

Well, for once, I think I could actually do that repair. But, just one problem, I don’t have any of those special sockets you used. But I’m sure that H- F would have some that are fairly inexpensive. but wait, it’s an hour drive to the nearest store. Guess it’s a good thing I don’t own a Chevy Cruz that needs a new water outlet thingy. Great job Eric as always.

I have all Milwaukee battery tools except that snap on ratchet. That thing is irreplaceable. That short extension may be my most used. I work on mostly heavy equipment but we help out my boss a few times with a 13 Cruze with the 1. 4. I think we have changed every coolant line and fitting on the car. The last job was the intake manifold. Those cars seem really cheaply built.

Hey Eric.
Thanks for postin.
I know exactly how you feel, my 1990 F250 diesel stole one of the fuel filter mounting bolts right out of my hand and refuses to give it back.
Some days are just like that, but I'll tell ya, that mother lover has stolen so many nuts and bolts that I'm starting to think he's starting a hardware store.
I appreciate what you do bud.

Im Norwegian. I come here not only for the education, but for the presentation. Well there's your problem lady, its got the big 5-0 in it, we got ourselves a Hondoo, from Napa(r) not a sponsor and so on and so on has become the Pinnacle of mechanical terms in my mind. There is no such thing as a boring SMA-video, the presentation is half the meal.

There is an aftermarket alloy water outlet and thermostat housing out there its beyond me why manufacturers think plastic engine parts are an innovative idea
I think Volkswagen started it. I had a Chevy Cruze for 9 years it's a solid car, but you must replace valve cover intake manifold water outlets all the plastic.

I have a 2014 chevy cruze. Had to change the thermostat or what ever a week after buying it used. Took them a month to do it. Started leaking oil shortly after, they stripped the manifold bolts. I put inserts in and have over 150k now. Never have work done on your car at Berthod motors in glenwood springs Colorado.

i wonder just how many engines were killed because of that coolant pipe or a failure of the turbo causing it to dump it oil out the exhaust honestly for as expensive as cars are now we should expect a lot better quality than this garbage they are selling and it’s a problem across all platforms unfortunately

Eric I appreciate all that you do for us and I thank you for pushing through to give us content even when you feel burned out or like it’s not a quality video. We learn everytime you publish, and just like penetrating oil, you give us the courage to torque the bolts on our car as shadetree mechanics.

Is that Cruse 1. 4 L the same exact engine that is in the now one generation back Chevy Trax It looks like it with the little baby turbo up front. If so, the turbos puke because of the oil inlet tube (being routed right behind the exhaust manifold) clog up if you don't keep clean oil in the engine.

Yo Dude, I have been standing over hear since the 8 Minute mark. I wanna move back over there. Never seen you get your hands dirty before, that engineer just over complicated this part. Was thinking of bringing my Yugo by for a Turbo install. Soon as the frame un-rots a bit. Thanks for the video!

That coolant hose that goes from the overflow tank also likes to exit the chat frequently. I've had one that someone brought in for an oil change where the hose literally broke where the clip is and it shot hot coolant EVERYWHERE. That was an expletive filled day after getting burned with coolant

I just replaced this on my own vehicle. The lip of the plastic that is supposed to prevent the outlet hose from sliding off cracked completely off, the hose was hanging on by a hope and prayer. Everything looked normal until i went to pull the hose off and got a there's yer problem moment.
