Eric,
Today you can spend $500 and get a top notch all-in-one, it prints, copies, scans, and faxes too. The Brother all in one I bought 4 years ago runs as good as it done the day I plugged it in. It takes the large office size tonner cartridges, 4k-6k pages. It is only b/w, it prints labels, envelopes, all that good stuff. The printer did have some kind of issue 6 months after I got. The Tech folks couldn't get it working. So, two days later a brand new printer just like the one I had showed up at my door. All I had to do is pack my printer into the box the new printer came and ship it back, on their dime. I've so much luck with my Brother printer, my sister bought one for herself and its still ticking like a Timex.
Anyway, I hope everyone is well. Thanks for another video!

You can keep that salty rusty garbage over there. Unfortunately, the imports moving here from out of state continue to pressure our D. O. T. here in Montana to use that crap more and more every winter instead of using common sense having personal responsibility to drive for the conditions. My shop routinely sees pre-2000 and often times mid-90's vehicles predominantly. I'd like to keep it that way but it's getting tougher to keep them rust-free due to the increased usage of deicing compounds. I don't know how you tolerate the difficulties in frame/chassis work.
Truthfully, if I were to ever buy a new vehicle and it started to fall apart while I was still making payments. let's just say that would be very sub-optimal.

I remember my 70 Dodge Coronet was having an issue with the windshield wipers intermittently deciding to stop working and then a few minutes later they would work. When I started checking for bad connections, I found a section of harness that was about a foot long that was a loop. I was able to unplug both ends of it and the connectors plugged together bypassing the loop. After extracting the unnecessary loop from the harness, I found a spot where the wire was broken inside the insulation. The problem was solved by removing a section of wire that served no purpose other than being another place where the circuit could fail.

Vehicles talk to me all the time, I hear that slack timing chain making the engine cry, I hear that clogged cat choking it's breathing, I smell too much fuel or coolant out the exaust pipe, I hear those idlers rumbling and squeaking because they ain't been changed on schedule, or ever vehicles are living things, they ingest fuel and air to eat, the wiring and moduals are the neuro network ( nervous system, the oil is the blood that circulates, the filters are the organs that collect contaminants and keep the innards clean, and after a servicing you can tell they are much happier. Truth. We build mechanical l8fe.

Od trucks down south are a treasure. The range-topping 1999 Silverado 1500 Extended Cab Long Bed starts at $4, 920 today, originally priced from $22, 935. They average around 200, 000 miles, but with a transmission rebuild will normally go to 450, 000 miles easily. Maintaining an older truck is usually a matter of normal wear and tear items. Upholster drivers seat, 300 dollars local, 2000 dollars transmission rebuild local, 200 dollars for fromt end and brake parts. Much cheaper than a 100, 000 new silverado. If you keep it clean it will last a long time. If you maintain it properly it will last forever.

Wife fell in love with a used SRX with a ton of miles and rebuilt trans. No warranty but her husband can fix anything. Went on a trip from Michigan to Indiana. On the way back all hell broke loose all kinds of electrical issues. Wiring harness fell onto the cat. Should have replaced it. Spent my weekend spicing like 100 little burned up wires. Shes still driving it. That was like 6yrs ago. Let's not go into all the lost ground issues. If it works who cares. Will never make it to the auto show.

No doubt the road salt corrosion issues in Florida are non existent. However Florida is a peninsula surrounded by bodies of saltwater. All the coastal vehicles do suffer corrosion issues.
Those folks wake up every morning with a fine layer of seasalt all over their vehicles. The seasalt is also on the roads.
So yeah the corrosion issues are not as severe. So generally speaking if one lives inland the salt issues are not as prevalent. Just an FYI not a troll. Great job as usual.

Say what you will about southern vehicles, but my 1989 Dodge D150 was bought new in Arkansas and has lived in the same county its entire life. There is not one single wire on the truck, other than the engine to body ground strap, that has ever been touched. You read that right - a 36 year old Chrysler with NO wiring problems. It even has the original fusible links on the inner fender. My dad bought it new, and I've had it since 1998. Hands down it's been the best vehicle I've ever owned.

Eric asked what's the difference between a $1500 scan tool and a $5000 scan tool. Well, the return question is What's the difference between a $200 inkjet printer and a $600 laser printer. The answer is the same, both will do the same job but the more expensive one will give you the results you want more consistently and faster.
Don't cheap out, get the laser printer, you won't regret it.

When I was a kid in the early 80's, my mom took our Ford Escort to the dealership because it was making a funny noise. The mechanic told her it was just the A/C compressor. She said no, it's not the A/C. He said, yeah, i am sure it is. She said she knows it isn't. He asked if she knew a lot about cars. She told him that she knew enough about them to know her car didn't have A/C. lol

Odd that Cisco and Allen-Bradly recommend using dielectric grease on outdoor and harsh condition network connections and sensors which are lower voltage (unless POE) than o2 sensors. We always use it on outdoor and/or buried communications equipment (or with Coax Seal also which is a tape which also works great on cars and trailers designed for underwater cable repair and protection).

I think that fixing is very different from repairing when working on things like this.
Repairing would be to pull the transmission and putting everything back to factory specs.
Fixing would be to do what Eric did here. making it work properly however the means.
Needless to say the former would be way more expense without a real difference in the end results.

Old cars were a thing when I was working in California. Most of the mayhem was to be found in the hot rods that some kid had been into. Just enough knowledge to kinda figure out what the problem was or to add some high performance accessories but not enough knowledge/patience/money to do quality work.
Old S-10 might have belonged to a kid at one point or another.

just wonder'n where cust who drove a couple of hundred miles stays and does while u go a couple of days to complete drive cycles. Also, the reason many hold on to older vehicles is they just CANT AFFORD the costs of NEWER ones. not to mention, and MY personal favorite, WAYY fewer VCM/ECM-CONTROLLED DOO DADS to break down/fail, then have to troubleshoot

HAHAHA Eric O! Yes, old vehicles have a TON of people that have been smarter than the engineers that designed them. but you ain't seen NOTHIN yet! Go look under the panels of a 1970's era small aircraft! And yes, those puppies are still serviceable and being flown every day. but MAN! The stuff I have seen. I understand exactly what you mean!

years ago while stationed in Alaska in the Air Force I seen an electric wire rubbing tubing fuel line, well one day it burned a pin hole with maybe a 100 psi in the tube and instant flamethrower. Thank god for the Sgt in charge quick thinking or we might have been out of a job: ). My shop was next door and add excitement to our day LOL.

I love being in the south My newest car is a 2001 Saturn 3 dr. My most expensive(9k) is a 1999 Dodge Ram with the 5. 9 diesel. All but the Astro are manual trans They do not have unnecessary can busses that leave ya walking if the backup camera has issues. I can't imagine having a truck that costs 100k rot away in 7 yrs

Here in Florida, you do see vehicles like this truck that have had piss poor repairs. Usually, the cats would have been cut off by now, cause that's what it has to be. On the other hand you have vehicles that are pushing 300k miles that run and drive perfectly and are no more difficult to work on than a new car.

Absolutely done right. Someone driving a 200K vehicle doesn't have tons of discretionary income. If they did they'd be driving a newer vehicle. Get it fixed in an economical and SAFE way. Fix it right at a later date when it can be combined with another required repair (clutch, tranny, rear main seal. Way to go!

We have a 2005 cargo van with the 4. 3 & for some reason it uses A couple litres of oil in A very short time span. There are absolutely no external leaks or unusual exhaust smoke present. The engine has approximately 100000 kms. Any possible causes would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
