That thing that was nagging at you here it is. So I know it's been 5 years but I'm doing a lot of catching up. Been trying to keep up with your post and just watched the video. Great job just got done doing one 07 Camry 2. 4 for a friend. Junk yard engine but original was locked up. I ended up pulling the head since installing and doing it in the car would be a pain as you found out. Installed the inserts in the block and had the head sonic tested and the whole bit, Checked the bearings M/R and that's when I noticed something that isn't mentioned anywhere. The bottom chain below the main timing chain does drive the pump but also drives the balance shaft/ OH OH That has to be timed also and if you turn the engine when the main chain is off you have to turn the engine several times to get it to align again, Bottom gear at 9 and the top gear behind the crank sprocket at 3 timed with the upper chain. Bummer but you had it at 8 and 2. Seamed to run good though but that might have been the thing that was nagging at you. even when you had the pan off the balance shaft and large gear assemble was rate there behind the deflector. I worked for Ford for 30+ years and nothing is like a 4. 0 SOHC timing chains concern with balance shaft and no keyways.

Trying to ensure my 4. 0 SOHC had coolant up to the thermostat I shook the housing(forgetting the bolts were sitting in it) and one fell down the housing into the water pump. Pissed at myself for having to take it off, I screwed the spare gasket I had. Rushed to the auto parts stored and bought the one each of the two stores had just in case I screwed up again. Ended up getting the ratchet between the bolt and the water pump pulley and bent one of the bolts on the way out. It wasn't a good day.

22: 33 Maybe a bit off topic, but related. First time I watch the Matrix, get to the part Neo touches the mirror. Ya, My first thought was Anti-Seize and started to chuckle. It was also this moment I found out Anti-Seize was an inside joke to techs. no one else got it: /

I've had to disassemble computers due to a lost screw. Losing a screw in an engine is bad, but there's a reasonable chance it might not be a problem. Losing a screw in a computer means ABSOLUTELY NO POWER UNTIL IT'S FOUND.

Oh, man, my ex went through a sugar free jam phase. Tasted like sour apples. Add that to her gluten-free, dairy-free, and kale phases. And she wondered why I ate out at lunch instead of eating what she sent to work with me.

For organization sake. Walmarts sells GreenCo Greenpro Wall Mount Hardware and Craft Storage Cabinet Drawer Organizer. Thats what I use when I do my engine tear down. Drop in a sticky note under the hardware. gold

So it's been nearly 5 years. Is it still running? Great job, but I ask as I never reuse any timing belt or timing chain tensioners, spring or hydraulic, period. Have one fail and it's not worth it.

I am watching this in 2020- debating if I should change my head gasket on my 2005 Rav4 with 278K miles. Thanks for your videos. The reinstall process seemed easier than the take apart.

Can you honestly tell me you never thrown all the bolts in a coffeecan and then later wondered where the bolts went when putting it back together? I have, but learned my lesson early.
