I work on a 2006 Saturn Ion 2. 4 with engine codes P0300, P0171, P0507, P1174. The customers complaint was rough running, poor performance, erratic idle and over all just didn't run right. Come along as I check this car out and see what is wrong

Hey Eric heres one. I dont have the scanner to view live data. Heres the issue. 2000 silverado 2500 hd with a 6. 0. 265k on the clock. Very suddenly it starts idling very high. p0507 code thrown. i clean the throttle body properly, use a multimeter to check idle air, and remove and clean it. i check my tps and clean it. i cleaned my MAF sensor with the proper stuff. i check for intake leaks using a flammable spray, and the soapy water way. The engine idles very high on cold start(1500rpm) when its warm its 2000. it stays high when you drive it to. The only thing i havent checked is the PCV valve. i also havent taken off the intake manifold yet. i suspect oil may be in it. Also a side note. it starts throwing a No communication from MAF to o2 bank one. i uplug the MAF while its running. It stays running. I change the MAF. same deal.

Hey buddy I have a 06 Saturn ion same motor same exact everything but I have had the car tested at Advanced Auto which that place is horrible and excuse my language but they have shitty parts. but anyway I also took it to AutoZone an the test came back to be the same thing 1 random misfire an 2 which leads to whenever I stop to put fuel in it and then I would crank up the car but won't run until I feather the gas pedal so I would start it again an fires right up but I have to hold it at 2rpms for 3 to 4 minutes after that it'll run ok but if I let right then it'll stall out but the car did keep on cutting off me sometimes while driving an stopping anywhere but I took some carb cleaner and took off the air intake an sprayed it so now it quit doing that for now just does it whenever I put any amount of fuel in it.

The local Advance here will scan your code free(just a code reader, no data) and the parts guy would try to sell you an o2 sensor for something like that. I've seen it in the parking lot! It also had the code for the other bank so that would make bad sensors even less likely.
Since he was parked next to me I had to watch, I told him and the owner to investigate further but he is a parts pro he said. The owner didn't buy the sensors. Told him to get maf cleaner instead(it was an older ford vehicle) and then look for vac leaks if the issue still exists.
P0171 codes are 99% not the o2 sensor. Like blaming the postman for someone not sending you your check! P0133 though is another story, but still not 100% the sensor.

So hey I can hear a leak coming from the intake manifold of this 2. 2 ecotec I'm working on. The only code over got is 303 but after putting a new ICM on I got a 300 and much more violent misfire. Put the old ICM back on and it's back to normal, misfiring only when up to temperature. I'll definitely do the brake cleaner test and go from there.

It is amazing one what can throw codes on newer vehicles, I have a 2. 2L ecotec and it had this problem, thought I new what it was, seeing as how I just cleaned the throttle body and MAF sensor, so I had a good idea what it was: P
Good video, a shame it was that short though, looking forward to more.

I cannot believe 'the internet' didn't fix that guys car! Perhaps injectors and solenoids were cheaper than a half hours diagnostic? Nice video Eric. I hate customers on Internet forums! The labour rate should double if the words 'on the forum it says. ' Come out of the owners mouth!

Good diagnosis. I'm confused though how an intake leak would cause a lean code, I thought it would cause a rich code because metered air escaping but the determined amount of fuel is still entering the cylinder. Can someone explain this to me?

Those Saturn engines are good from my experience. I've recently done a compression test on one with 175K miles on it and it showed 185 PSI across the board. I thought that's impressive! Maybe it was just a well maintained one, I don't know.
