Lets have a look at the non functioning turning signals on this 2004 Dodge Caravan. We learn the lesson that it pays to test instead of parts swapping!

My 2000 Caravan had a different twist. Right side signals work, front & rear. Left side rear doesn't illuminate, left front blinks very fast (classic indicator of a bulb not functioning. In my case, though, there was no power reaching the rear bulb socket and the ground showed continuity.
The Fix? Replace flasher module (on the fuse block, under the dash) with one from a junkyard vehicle.
Six years later, my turn signals work intermittently. Maybe they work today, maybe not. The fix? Remove and re-install (do NOT replace) flasher module (on the fuse block, under the dash.
I went through this intermittent problem a dozen times in a month and then, one day, everything decided to function correctly. For the last 3-4 months, everything is working as it should.

Eric, Have you come across the 3rd gen caravan wiper issue yet? I've been told it's a common problem, but have also discovered that one of the resistors in the BCM is the culprit. I forget which resistor, but when I did know which one it was, I tested it. Mine was actually good, so I replaced the wiper switch. The wipers work, but randomly they will turn on when a sliding door is closed or the key gets turned. The right turn signal randomly fails to signal until I momentarily hit the flashers on then off. Then the signal will continue to flash. I thought this was a flasher issue until I replaced it with a new one. The issue still persists.
I'm at my wits end with the electronics on this thing. 1997 Grand Caravan.
I live in Arizona, so, rust is rare here.

I owe you a HUGE thank you. The directionals on my 03 Caravan have been acting up and I convinced myself it was a bad PCM. The car is due for an inspection sticker this month and I was just about to lose hope. After watching this video I ran a ground from that black and tan to the body and presto: All lights are back to normal. Interestingly, my radiator fan relay has been acting up and that G102 is corroded to crap. Well, off to get a sticker, then this weekend, I'll fight the good fight and clean that G102 ground up some. I've always had an aversion to electronic diagnostics but watching you blow through this and figure it out gives me hope. Thanks for sharing your expertise. One more year left in the green grocery getter!

My gf's jeep compass had this same problem. The dealership tried to tell her it was just a bad bulb lol. I fixed it by cutting the ground wire for the turn signal and soldering on a jumper wire with a ring terminal and just ran a self tapping screw into a piece of metal. Kinda janky but that car was a turd and it costed nothing but an hour of my time to diagnose and fix.

Yo eric! thanks for the video. i too have an '04 bland caravan with that exact same issue-which is to why i was led here, watched your video and same thing-probably. but as mine's a rusty trusty old work van i just snipped that black and tan wire and gave it a new ground by a nearby screw that goes into the body. works again, thanks dude!

Is there a non professional site that I could find decent wire diagram's and flow charts on? I have two dodge caravan and there both at the age of electrical wiring death, especially the 1998 with 235000 miles. Having intermittent power side door issues on the 2003. Seems everything I find is not accurate to the vehicles.

Wow. You are an excellent mechanic. The way you explain things and your patience. I am very impressed with your computer resources. I especially like your ability to improvise and to use intuition as with welding glasses. Keep up the good work. Your videos help us all. Thank you for your kindness.

First pro mechanic I've watched in 15 years that diagnosed this type of problem so thoroughly and efficiently corrected the issue the right way for the long run. He did this all while actually in motion working on the car. Great summary at the end as well. Sorry, Scotty K, you've been bested!

I'm by no means an expert. But the level of DUH to buy a Turn Signal switch for that problem is astounding to me. Most people I know who can't even change a tire would know better. Not trying to be a jerk, but wow. Talk about flushing money.

I was taught young from my grandfather that the rule of thumb for blinkers was as follows.
Fast Flash on one side = a bulb was burned out or a broken wire.
Solid Light/Not Flash on one side = Faulty Flasher Unit.
