This thing had a recall for the accelerator getting caught under the engine cover at wide open throttle. When it happened to me, after the initial shock, I reached for the key, left it in gear and shut it off, letting it roll to a stop on the side of the road and then wiping the sweat off my brow. The average non-mechanic type person could have possibly been killed and in fact, several people were killed due to this problem. I left the engine cover off the vehicle after that incident until I became aware of the fix that has you trim away some of the plastic structure under the engine cover, near the throttle cable assembly.
Note: When this happens above a certain speed, say 10-15 mph, NO AMOUNT of braking will even slow this vehicle down, no matter how hard you mash both feet down on that brake!

Eric, all tech's reach a point of frustration. Yes, it isn't the best business technique to criticize other shops, sometimes it's difficult to be quiet and not openly wonder why. I believe you hit the nail center when you talked about mentoring, training, etc, before I retired it was very difficult to find training, and manufacturers were very stingy sharing information. Perhaps the other shop exceeded their abilities, who knows why, but you're correct when you said if you don't know how to repair it, send it. thanks for video's, say hello to Mrs. O and kids.

Eric there's nothing wrong with a little venting and you were totally right about why people don't like going to shops and paying good money for s like that typically the only time I go to a shop is when I cannot handle the job myself that's the way I've always done it and I've always had the right repairs done by me but now that I'm getting older and feeble and I am actually knowing that it is happening to me I don't mind giving jobs to my local shops that do meet the standards good work Eric do you always do a great job and a great video thank you so much

the reality of someone taking all that time to wrap elect tape on a. 05/ft vacuum hose instead or replacing it, no, you were correct in calling them out. and i know you felt you were right, because it was not edited out. what does kinda surprise me is how this kind or work keeps ending up in your lot. as far back as i have gone in your videos this is a reoccurring problem. seems the fancy XYZ CERTIFIED sign is not worth the tin it's printed on. If you can do it, why can't they?

With that many miles I would tell the owner to pat it on the rear and send it to the crusher. It lasted longer than possibly expected. Move on. It is sad that people get had from mediocre mechanics. I say do your best to research a good mechanic. Wouldnt want a mediocre pediatrician treating your child. Have a similar respect for the vehicle you are transporting your child in. Just saying. You are appreciated Mr. O.

After the probably hundred videos I've watched here I would easily pay well over dealership prices if I knew this guy was working on my car. They say you don't pay for the labor but for the knowledge of the mechanic and boy oh boy this man has forgot more about cars then I will ever learn in my life time. Love the videos man, stay humble it adds so much to these videos. Hey any chance you could stop by Ohio: )

Eric I'm glad you called at the other shop and this is ridiculous when I saw you having to fix zip ties on throttle cables that's a good way to create a wide open throttle hang up, when the other shop does junk work like this they should be called out, their name that's what I would have done I mean, embarrass these idiots, people like ( them should NOT be in ) the auto repair business keep up the great work.

I have read many comments regarding the other shop's rate being close to SMA. I am as honest as they come (that's why I love watching Eric, he's like me, a good honest person) and I can't count the number of times someone went somewhere else to save 5. 00 or less. At the end of the day, some people want to go cheap. no such thing as good and cheap, pick cheap work or good work, you can't have both.

We don't see what the Don goes through every day like you but I'm sure he is as finicky, fastidious and organized as you are. He demands the same from his employees and expects nothing less from anybody. He carries the weight of the free world on his shoulders and I admire him for that.
