Wondering if the last guy did it right. Yeah, I had that issue with the wear tabs on a 2010 Sierra. The squeak tabs were on the leading edge being forced into the pad if they hit the rotor. I always thought they were supposed to push away from the pad when they hit the rotor. I couldn't find any good info online so I put them back in the way I found them. I was trying to do the front brakes using my EricO online classes by cleaning and greasing everything just like EricO. Due to un natural circumstances, I installed new brackets, calipers, rotors and pads. Not much rustbelt rust to clean. I enjoy doing brake shoes but they aren't as common. I like using the special retainer screwdriver and spring release tool. Vice grips on complicated stuff.

This video reminded me, of me, back in the day ('72 at college) when my baseball coach couldn't get his Nash Metropolitan's slave cylinder fixed at the repair shop (refused to take the job. I told him I'd look at it, and one thing led to another and I did the job in the parking lot with hand tools and a bottle of Dot 3; mission completed. (it wasn't 'rocket surgery' after all. :D

Interestingly. I had a Yamaha DT50cc scrambler, drum brakes front and back. Was so easy to replace.
All you do is to pop the old shoes out, put the springs on the new shoes and slide them into position. They don't have the little spring retainers in the middle to keep them in place.
Mediocre brake action from drum brakes though. But hey, I survived. :)

I know all about inhaling break dust. I used to work in a break making manufacturing plant in Jackson Michigan called Kelsey Hayes Corp. Uion job. 10 to 12hrs, 7days a week. There were a lot of opportunity to work 16 to 20hr days including weekends. With that said I m sure cancer from break dust will what takes me and coworkers out.

Watching Road Kill on MotorTrend TV, the guys were spraying CRC Brakeleen in the carburetor, to start a junk yard car. It would NOT start. The guy later showed that the can was Non-Flammable. He stated that some States require that, so he got a can that was FLAMMABLE, and it started. Moral to the story - Read the can BEFORE using!

Ok Iam going to be of those guys. How come you didn t explain the primary and secondary shoe and how the self adjusters work? One more rant or sniveling. You have every tool know to the tool gods, but you don t have a brake lathe? Still like your content and thanks for all you do Mr O.

It was much too painful to watch this video. I was having flashbacks of years ago. my thumb being impaled by the end of springs and sometimes the tips of my fingers being caught. The next time I need drum brakes the car is going to Eric.
Thanks for the video.
