Soon as I heard warping between oil changes. on a minivan, my mind went back to an acquaintence I visited in Florida, who had the same complaint with her Sienna. Just one ride with her confirmed my suspicions: With every seat occupied, she braked so late and so hard at every toll plaza and traffic light that the rear wheels almost lifed off the ground Edit: And yes, the minivan shuddered with every high-speed stop. I pity the shop who does her brakes. Although it is hard to tell on screen with your rotors, those rotors looked a little dark. (overheated. My next door neighbor bought slotted, drilled rotors online (don't know brand) for his non-hi-perf Charger, and tried to sell me on them too. He is a careful, adult driver. I think it was less than four months before they rusted so bad that he had to replace the rotors again, this time with normal ones. I believe roads in our area are less salty than yours, so your mileage may vary.

Got a set of these for an 05 Tundra and fitted them to a 2002 4Runner with larger calipers. Nearly 80k miles and I ll be on my first replacement set of pads. Might even do rotors just out of caution
Edit: the rotors power stop carries are aluminum based unlike most other rotors that are cast iron/steel.
With that said it s supposed to help dissipate heat even more and it s also supposed to lighter weight performance type making it have less unsprung weight each axle.

I too went down this road with my new Suzuki Equator/Nissan Frontier, brakes and rotors burned out at 17k miles. A new set of slotted and drilled rotors and premium pads also burned out at 20k miles. I found that the tabs at the end of the pads needed to be sanded down a bit because they were just to tight in the brackets, that coupled with one season of road salt was enough to make them bind to much and burn up. I found this to be a common problem with many vehicles.

interesting, my daughter is a Rural Mail Carrier, and all of the postal carriers have brake problems, one lady has to replace her brakes every 30 days! me? I use the engine to slow below 35 and then use the brake, but the mail carriers are Jack Rabbit drivers, rush, STOP! hold foot on brake pedal. no matter how much I tell my daughter she is using the brakes wrong, she tells me that she is not. uh huh. my brakes last 100k miles, hers about 10k miles, maybe?

Hard to tell from looking but the rotors might be zinc electro-coated which is great at preventing rust. The break-in procedure removes it from the friction surfaces. The remaining zinc will slow down rusting on all of the areas that weren't scrubbed away during the break-in. I've had good experiences with zinc coated rotors on many different cars.

been using these on my tiguan and gti for about a year now. so far holding up fine. the mk2 tiguans are known to warp front rotors, so far so good.
the higher end powerstop(like you got) use a zink coating on the entire rotor. the low end power stop are just like the cheap local parts store, coated with oil.

Constant heavy braking in itself isn t going to warp the brake discs/rotors. However, heavy braking and then sitting on the brake pedal after you ve come to a complete stop will, as the part of the rotor/disc with the pad against it will cool at a slower rate than the rest, thus warping the rotor/disc.

I have the PowerStop Towing version on my 07 Chebby with the BIG 6. 6 Duramax. I don't drive it a ton but I do tow with it. They seemed to make a little difference in stopping power and haven't warped yet. I did go with mid-price normal replacement for the rears. Time will tell but I'm happy so far!

I bought a set of pads and rotors from rock auto that had a very similar break in procedure. they were probably the best set of brakes I ve ever owned. Out lasted the car I put them on. the body was falling off but she stopped quick, fast and in a hurry and importantly smooth as a baby s bottom.
