I wonder if you got some of the hottest hot sauce you could find and liberally apply it to all the wiring harnesses and whatnot, if that'd stop the squirrels and mice from being so eager to chew on them. Alternatively, since the acid in the sauce could be bad for the rubber insulation on the wires, you could also probably coat all the wires with silicone spray, and then dust them all down heavily with some really hot ground pepper. Some extra hot ground cayenne pepper would probably do the job. Just make sure you always let anyone that works on your car know what you've done - it'd be REALLY bad for a mechanic to be touching the wires and then rubbing his / her eyes.

I had a friend that grew poor, always drove the couple hundred dollar car held together by bailing wire and a prayer.
The first job he got that paid good money, he purchased a brand new Mustang GT 5. 0. Two weeks after getting the car, went to leave for work, and the car wouldn't start. Opened the hood and rats (the big Norwegian brown rats) had eaten all of the plug wires and a good bit of the wiring close to the plug wires. The Mustang required a entire under hood wiring harness.
Mrs. O's graphic mouse in trap picture was tame compared to what was inflicted to the rats.

I had to have my car towed 4 times from rats chewing on my wires. My mechanic said that the stuff they put around the wires is made from some soy product and they love it so he put something on them that they don't like & make them not eat it. There was a lot of construction going on near where I live and it was pushing the rats from there homes. I have a 2016 Lexus SUV & it cost me 2, 500 in repairs and tows & was not a happy camper and I took revenge on the rat s lol

Wire mesh in the induction hole?
Fit a Snorkel intake?
Fit a couple of enclosed mouse traps in the engine bay, when she fills up, check the oil and water and empty the mouse house!
Another issue is sometimes And s nests get in and settle in the MAF body, seen this on marine outboards, as with wasp nests doing the same.
Good reveal Mr O, had me laughing, luckily you record stuff, imagine trying to tell the customer, with a straight face

Where I live exactly the same issues, but not as severe for the intake. I always use aluminum screen material at the entrance point to the intake and seal it off good. However, the wiring is a whole new ball of wax. What a fun day. Do you know any remedy in all your days that would alleviate the wire chewing issue. Thanks for this video Eric. Pete

My friend got an FJ cruiser with the same engine. He got severe misfire on multiple cylinders. Found a whole bank entire injectors wires been chewed up. Fixed it then next day it misfires as bad again the same 3 been chewed up again it repeated 3 consecutive days later he found huge fat rat is the culprit! Costed him upward of 500 in wire repairs.

My 2005 Focus was ravaged by squirrels a few years ago, but the car did sit a lot, so. From what we were told the wire casing was soy-based (ugh) and slightly tasty to the rodent-based palate. I ended up doing about a dozen wire patches and now it's a routine to open up the hood a few times a week as the Monster-in-law drives it now.

If their teeth become too long, squirrels are unable to open acorns or nuts. To sharpen and control the length of their teeth, squirrels chew through materials that create friction to grind their teeth to the right length. Unfortunately, this means that chewing their way through your roof and wires is a piece of cake.
