Escalade / Tahoe / Yukon - Rear A/C Block Off

Escalade / Tahoe / Yukon - Rear A/C Block Off autos: I wonder if it would have been worthwhile to also get one of the 13 kits and use it to block off the dead lines going to the back of the vehicle? Even if they didn't seal all that well they would probably keep crud out of the lines and make it possible to use the leak detector.
I also wonder if the system is a little over charged. I suspect the charge amount on the nameplate included the charge that would have been in the rear lines and condenser.

Thanks for the video Eric. Excellent views. Eric, just wondering, did you have formal training or are you self taught? My dad had an auto repair shop back in the 50s & 60s. He had no formal training but was a very good mechanic and everyone in the surrounding area brought their cars, trucks, and tractors to him to repair. I am 75 now and a lot of what I learned about repairing and maintaining vehicles back then has stuck with me. I was in high school back then and worked in my dad's shop until he sold it when I graduated. Cars are so complex now and you have to be an electrician as well as a mechanic to work on them. You amaze me with your electrical diagnostics and I learn from watching your videos, as well as Rainman Ray. Love both of you guys.

Great info although it doesn t seem feasible going back and fixing the rear lines with how much junk will get in them with them open in the engine bay. I recently rebuilt and flushed my friends 6. 0 suburban and that was a nightmare to do those rear lines just because of how much flush you need to use. Blocking off the rear lines also would be much nicer for fixing the rear ac at a later date.

I like those, we usually use the press on block off caps from FMS. I've used the dorman compression fittings and they do work good but the line needs to be clean or they leak. usually when i block them off i use the caps on the one side and then i crush the other side and roll it up. we both know that once its blocked off that owner isn't going back.

I disagree with this. Buy once cry once. The air conditioning system should ve been fixed by replacing the rear lines. trying to cheap out on things never works out. It s always best to do it the right way from the beginning. I understand you re only doing with the customer wants, but in this situation, I believe the customer made a bad choice.

Seems like the kit should have covers to cap off the rear lines as well to at least preserve what shape they are in now vs. let them get destroyed (unless they are all one piece to the rear.
36 is pretty cold for 134a systems, usually you are lucky to see 40. I've always liked the GM A/C designs vs. the others out there.

He really takes good care of that vehicle. Tell me do you take the lines that are going all the way back and cap them just keep dirt out of the system? I mean I understand if someone's going to use that they have to replace the lines but the actual condenser in the back you wouldn't want to get any dirt or debris in that.

So I went to the local shop and asked about pulling a vacuum and they had me walk 3 times around the shop pulling a ShopVac by the cord. I didn't notice any leaks, and I thought it was a strange, but for 100 I guess they're the experts!
Happy Friday (and early Saturday) everyone!

Why wouldn't they have just made a block with the o-ring grooves cut that allowed connection of the hoses? Would have been a cleaner installation.
Eric, how often do you have to change out the filters on your recovery recycling machine? Is it time or pressure differential based?

Good video. The rear AC in our 2005 Yukon and now our 2011 Yukon work very well, Arizona. But the kids are grown up now and we rarely have rear passengers. Good to have the rear AC blower fan going however, so R134a becomes a gas and doesn't flood compressor as a liquid.

I learned something new today. Now, if I can just remember it tomorrow, all will be good. Nah, just kidding. Tell Mrs. O I said - Chello, Mrs. O. I hope all is well in God's country. Coming up September 7-14 to the Adirondack State Park to the Town of Day. Take care.

I used them for my 99 tahoe. Got the rear lines and evaporator. I was pretty proud of myself for actually accomplishing the job. Been working for a year now. The replacement lines are not rigid so installation is easier. Its nice to have rear air for the dogs.

Same company that I got the replacement rear AC lines for my Town and Country from, no complaints. Everyone commenting about not blocking off the rear lines, they are no good and it is his winter beater, so I doubt he cares if the rear gets ruined or not.

I was a tech for 40 years. I really like watching your videos you are spot on with your diagnosis & repairs. I always told my technicians 90% of the repair is diagnosis the rest to clean & repair you're a great technician. Keep up the great work
