Good to point out that the crimp connectors with heat shrink tubing with the adhesive inside are NOT the same as a standard plastic tubing covered crimp connector even though they might shrink down a little when exposing to heat. I would also point out that not all heat shrink covered crimp connectors are created equal. I bought a cheap set from Amazon and using a standard T&B crimping tool actually cuts the low quality heat shrink tubing. Heating it only causes the cut sections to become larger exposing the bare metal even more. It happens with every one of them so far. Worthless garbage which defeats their purpose.
Buy good ones.

As always, awesome diag Mr. Eric O. Still entertaining even wo the use of thor or big nasty. Keep doing what you do bud. The automotive world needs more good honest techs such as yourself. Question, even though that filler neck was all jerry rigged, with the smoke test it seemed to be sealed aside from the leak at the cap from the rust hole. Could you have just epoxy/jb welded that hole to fix the problem instead of sending him off w it still leaking and needing further repair? Given the state, age, and usage of the truck i imagine that would be fine since the rest of the jerry rigged filler neck was still tight.

Don't know why connectors are so expensive? Because they know you won't spend the time searching for the OG so they charge you out the wazoo. Next time look on Mouser, DigiKey or Newark and you can probably find the connector body for 1 and the pins for 8 cents each. Even if you pay 5 or 6 shipping, it beats 20 to 60 you will pay for a lousy pigtail when you can crimp the pins to the wires and have an OEM look and quality instead of crimped butt connectors with a pigtail.

If anyone is looking for those butt connectors they sell them at Auto Parts Stores you can tell the people at the Auto Parts Store you need crimp and seal or heat and seal butt connectors or whatever connector and they will show you where they are. But the best way to tell is that most crimp and seal are usually a transparent color connector but you need to read on the package to make double sure before buying and finding out they do not seal when heated.

Had a hunch on that one. Those non-stock boxes seem to be plagued by filler neck issues, but this time it was NY salt, Just did a neck on my personal 99 Tahoe because of rust. A cheat fix would be a little PC-7 on the outside of the neck. Of course, it it looks like the truck has a long life ahead of it, a new neck would be in order. Another fully complete diag, thanks for the video!

Don't worry Mr O, I'm self censoring. That beepin truck ain't worth any beep time. Should have been sent to the mother beepin crusher a long beepin time ago. It's only a dodge. It's beepin transmission probably ain't long for this world. I say that as I drive a Chevy with a 700r4 transmission. Should have named it a 700c4. Should have used duct tape to repair that leak

they're so expensive because china hasn't been able to make them and get them to market. when amazon helps them achieve this, the prices will drop to about 5. there are a lot on amazon now. I bought a set of injectors from ebay from a china co and they're working just fine. the injector assembly from ac delco is 499. this set, 145.

Eric O is a hero among men. If I can do it you can do it is BS. Helicopter mechanic by trade so it takes one to know one. You can t replace the years of scraped knuckles and late nights. I ve never met a mechanic that was as honest or hardworking. Take your vehicle to his shop and tip him. He is a dying breed.

One of the tips i picked up from the old-timer mechanics was to cut the wires staggered: that way, after you ve determined the polarity, your likelyhood of screwing it up goes down and you don t get a huge bulge in one spot of the wiring harness as the crimp-on connectors are on different locations.

It seems to me that the hole can be filled with either a Room Temperature Vulcanizing RTV product or a fiberlass resin. An expoxy could also work but you would need to put an RTV skin over it to protect the epoxy from potental chemcial attack. This is less likely due to the location of the hole.

Well, this gives me an idea of what I need to be chasing. Tired of limp mode when tank gets below 1/4. I did the cap, purge valve (it was actually bad) and the next thing was exactly what you did. At least I know the values that I need to look for in my scanner. Thank you again!

I keep thinking I d like to be one of the first 100 to watch one of SMA s videos, but Eric is such a beast, there are literally thousands of views before I can watch. I so enjoy watching, so instructional, informative, entertaining. Well done Eric. Thanks for what you re doing.

Thank you for going the extra mile and making this video. Very interesting failure and fix. Glad oil filters don't pop open like that air filter. You don't get to see a master mechanic with your knowledge very often. Great teaching video, as usual. Be safe and thanks again!
