Toyota Rav4 Is D. O. A. But Still Runs? autos: Mr O. I ve seen this happen before when someone reversed the jumper cables when the battery went bad. They tried to jump start the truck and didn t know what they were doing. It was on a newer ford but they blew the main I think it was 130 amp nothing electric worked but the motor still started. As soon as the 130 amp fuse was replaced everything worked fine.

Some people just don't understand how business works. If you're hired to do one job and you spend 3 days fixing everything wrong with it, All the customer has to say is, I didn't ask you to fix anything other than _______ But thank you for fixing everything. And all you can charge for or get paid for is the initial problem you were hired to fix.
The time you spent fixing everything else that you're not getting paid to fix is now time wasted that could be spent fixing other vehicles. Your company would go bankrupt in less than 3 months.

also, the customer sometimes appreciates having you point out other things they are unaware of so you can do it on the same trip to the shop. I hate telling a customer they need something when they pick it up. If it were me, I would ask why didn't you tell me, I could have left it here and saved another trip. I at least try to tell them on the front end so there is time to do it while I have the car if they choose to add the work.

Customer: You must have broken something. The window worked fine when I brought it in. (The black plastic was for sun shading only) You must have broken the battery hold down because it was there when I brought it in. You must have gotten the battery wet and shrunk it because it used to fit just fine. (The wood block that it sits on is for decoration only)

Great investigation, Eric. I know on my Frontier, Nissan calls the item you pulled out with the blown fuse a fusible link block and it's something like 25 to replace new which I've had to do. It's obviously the last line of defense for a hard short close to the battery like you were saying. Thank you for the entertaining videos - keep 'em coming!

Had the same problem with the master window door switch on my 02 Outback last month. Three windows worked fine but one was dead. Amazingly, I found the switch on Amazon for about 20! The same switch apparently was used in many cars of that era. Arrived the next day and took about 20 minutes to replace.

Eric, I run a mobile repair, and specialize in just that sort of repair. Over heating, because daughter never looks at coolant, etc. Your right, just fix what they want. Bye the way, I have found that exact problem on vehicles that boyfriend tried to jump-start a dead battery and crossed the poles. LOL

Probably happened from a power surge from improperly adding and subtracting power, negative- means subtract and positive means add +, when adding power or cables add + positive first, when subtracting power remove the - first, people like Rayban Ray will never understand that.

would a battery charge voltage be instructive?
Wow. what an excellent opportunity to tell customer WHAT MORE you can and should do. But, then, customer was DIY'ing it when they blew the 140A fuse and so decided, this is beyond my ability. That loose battery is really bad!

Let me tell ya this. I Love pull a part yards. I went to get a wiper motor and whole assembly and it cost me 17. Online, a new motor alone, requiring 4 hours and 395 swears to put it into the assembly would have been over a hundred bucks. Install, worked, move on.

You re lucky that you can run to Bath to get some good used OEM stuff. That yard is setup well too. Nice video and fix like always. It s funny how people complain about cost to fix a vehicle, but then also expect ten other items fixed they didn t mention.

Absolutely great video. And your statement of fix what you were hired to do, is so very true. They may be on their last dollar, who knows. But at least you fixed it so they have transmission VS some other shop demanding they replace and repair all.

I m only three minutes into it, but seeing the 15 amp fuse is hot, I m guessing there s a common ground that is missing. Being New York, I ll venture the guess of corrosion.
Edit: I should have watched 30 more seconds before guessing.

Hey I had a similar problem just like this in a 2000 Ford Windstar minivan but the one thing different was the dancing gauges those things bounced around like crazy. I never fixed it but I was told it was the body module and cluster

Eric that car is in good hands with you especially with that vintage Gulf Oil hat on! People can still break a virtually indestructible vehicle. Amazing. Got to love opening the door and finding cut pieces of wiring etc. Scary!
